Removing Roll-on Bedliner Tricks?

Got any that I can use. I want to remove the cheap roll on bedliner in my truck and get some herculiner put in instead. And when I mean cheap..I mean CHEAP. When I pressure washed the bed (I used to have a rubber bed mat that might of helped) In about 5-6 spots about the size of paper plates the bedliner just flaked away. And I got some questions about herculiner, the kits on sale at Farm & Fleet for $70 (does that sound about right?) I know a lot of you guys have used it and so far I haven't read anything bad about it. I really just want a DIY if theres any other options let me know.

Also, I plan on sanding/priming some rust spots on the bed, do I really need to put a layer of paint on them? I thought It wouldnt really make a difference if I did or not.

I looked into the Rhino Lining (no line-x place around here) and I don't want to go to the local Ziebart here and get a rhino lining put in because 4 G-Clamps cost me $50, and they quoted me about $900 for a Rhino Job just for THE BED!!

How did you prep the bed the last time it was rolled on? The whole bed has to be "scarred" up when you apply a bed liner so it will adhere better to the metal. It won't to painted metal, so if you take some sand paper and scratch up the bed some, it'll make it stay. So sanding the rust spots on the bed would help. No reason to waist paint

As far as taking off the old liner, if it's peeling, I suggest getting a couple different sized putty knives, and just scraping up the rest of it.

Herculiner is good, but it isn't the best either. There are so many different brands out there with different recipes, it's almost hard to find the best one. But, for $70, and a lot of prep work, it should last you for a while.

Yea the other bedliner was on it when I bought the truck. And from what I can see they must have just rolled it on over the paint because its painted underneath.

I would try to just sand it out. I had to remove some off an old mud truck to get rhino lined about 7-8yrs ago (neighbors project), and we used a bunch of different things, ranging from acetone, to sandpaper, to putty scrapers. The best thing I found is sandpaper. Keep it dry! Do not get it wet or it's a night mare. If there is indeed a lip that you can get under the bedliner, use a scraper and scrape it up.

I would just go w/ sandpaper though. It's going to be a big job. I'm sure the rhino place would sandplast it for you, but it's going to cost you.

And for the price they would charge to do that, you could BUY a soda blaster and do it yourself.
