I'm still liking the sound of my exhaust, but I've grown tired of the side exit. It was supposed to be surrounded by a kit, but the kit hasn't made it out yet (probably won't for a while). Should I try something a little diffferent?

I'm thinking along the lines of either a Center exhaust, like both the Saleen Focus and the S-281 have, or possibly even having a rear exit, but only on one side, kind of like the Srt-10 Ram. It would be dual tips on that, as well.

Or, does it look good as is?

I'm confused.

What will you do with your spare with a center exit? If you go for duals, be careful. Some end up too close to the spare and damage it. Also, several have melted plastic tubing that is part of the fuel vapor recovery system, turning on the check engine light. Most are fine, but the duals can cause some difficulties if not done right.

 

Well, *if* I go with the center option, I was going to mount the spare in the bed.

Quick question: My spare is the standard one that came with the truck from the factory. Since I have the L/S diff, wouldn't that throw the ratios off, causing a bad situation with the diff? Assuming I had a flat in the rear.

My factory tire O.D. was 27.4", the ones I have now are 26.8" O.D.

 

That's not TOO bad. But yes, you should have equal size tires as much as possible on the rear with an LSD. If you have to put on the spare, drive as little as possible.

I have a 31" spare on my truck for that very reason.

 

Well, if you blew a tire, you could always throw one from the front on the rear, and run off-sized on the front. Might not be as damaging, since you have no axle-shafts in the front and shouldn't be too much stress on the steering.

Me, I like your side exit exhaust. I have had that on every truck I've owned. If you did mess with it, go twin-round tips out the back on the right side. Don't turn them to the side, just go straight out.

You obiously have GREAT taste in vehicle modifications, but don't angle them or tilt them upward like all the imports do. Keep it straight, keep it simple and CLEAN, like your truck is.

If you want my vote, it's leave it alone -- but I voted for out the back on the side. Sometimes change is good.

 

I would just get rid of it altogether. Just have it dumped at the muffler and that would look a lot cleaner.

 

Looks great to me. I wouldn't change a thing.
If you do decide to remove it, I could find a good home for your current exhaust

Have you shaved the tailgate handle yet?
A rear exhaust through the roll pan with a totally clean tailgate would be sweet.

 

I think you should stick with what you have. Personally I love the side swept exhaust. I had honestly been thinking of getting side swept myself after looking over some pics of your truck a while back.

 

That's what I did. It's ugly, but you don't see it at all. You can get better pipes to angle it away from the truck, but I did it with the cheapest thing I could find.

 

I have thought about dumping it, but I do like the look of a good chrome tip.

If I did the rear exit, it would be straight out the back with a twin tip, rolled edges and possible a slant cut.

I guess the only reason I don't like the current setup it because it's just kind of "poking out there". Once it's nestled in a side skirt, I'm sure I'll fall in love again. I do LOVE the sound, though.

Changing the exit point will most likely drastically change the sound as well.

 

This is what I'd do. The factory gave me a metric sized spare. I'm sure it's close, but I'd rather not risk anything. I'd swap a front to the rear and put the spare on the front. I'd also avoid 4x4 until I got the tire repaired/replaces. You don't have that problem though.

My worry, from an asthetics point of view, for 'dumped' exhaust is how it would look w/ the gasses coming out of it. Especially on cold mornings and such. It is more asthetically pleasing to have a point where the gases come out of, rather than just pouring out from under the truck.

I had a 'dumped' exhaust (read: broken tailpipe) on my craptastic first car. I used to pull up to stop lights and the steam and such would encompass the car! Was kind of a wild show.. Surprised I didn't die of CO poisoning though..

Wheels: Eagle One 20/20 Auto Glass cleaner, Heavy Duty Eagle One Chrome Wheel cleaner if it's been a while.

Tires: Eagle One WET Tire Shine.

And you know, the reflection of the road in your truck looks better than the actual road.
