Finally did the Tails - VHT Nite Shade = good stuff!!!
Took about 9 hours and I still gotta wet sand n polish them. After gettin quoted $100 to get them professionally done I decided to do it myself. If you take your time with prepping and pay attention you'll get the same quality. Cost me about $17. I had some sand paper and tape laying around so that didn't cost me anything.
Here's the stuff i used
VHT Nite Shade
Rust-oleum Clear enamel
sand paper 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 grit
Painters tape (taped the holes in the back so water didn't get in them)
Dawn soap
Before
4 light shades of nite shade and the whole can of clear (About 4 heavy coats each light)
I think they turned out pretty good. I still gotta take some 2000 grit and wet sand and polish them. There's still a tiny bit of orange peel. Ill take some of them installed when its light outside.

This is probably a dumb question, but can't you just buy the smoke covers for the lights?

Why go through all the work of painting and everything. What is the difference? Also, why get the really expensive head lamps that only have a black background, when you can black out the whole thing with a 40 dollar cover?

on the 3rd brake light I just wet sanded with 500 grit then 1000 grit to smooth it out.. Used some water with a tiny bit of dawn. Then if your not going to nite shade just spray some coats of clear on em. I sprayed a couple light coats of nite shade on mine in between sanding and clear.
