How to mount a rack on a cap?

Looking to add a rack to a fiberglass cap. I have a basket that i plan to add, but might swap to kayak saddles too, so i need it to be flexible.

So what are my options? I looked up yakima and thule and that just costs too much.

Let me know your thoughts and ideas

if you want something cheap and easily removable get some fist clamps and then steel tubing... the clamps are rated at 22lbs a piece so i dont know if that will be enough for you but like i said, its simple

I don't need the mounts removable, i just need to be able to mount different yhings on the crossbars. Do you have a picture of these mounts? How do they attach?

you bolt them on, or you can use adhesive...

throwing some things in here so i can find it later

yakima landing pads 30 each
http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...ding-pad-6.asp

control towers 92 each
http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...trol-tower.asp

crossbars 52 each
http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...cross-bars.asp

so thats almost 600

or i go go with this
http://www.rackattack.com/product-pa...h-plusnuts.asp
but that still requires the crossbars, control towers and a Landing pad

i had the yakima rack on my cap the one with the two poles going fully across the cap so i could carry building supply up there... what you need to do is to make an inside and outside base and mount em through your cap with carriage bolts thats how the yakima works. You should also get the thin one side glued foam insulation stuff about a quarter inch wide and put that between your rack and the cap roof for water tightness and a real little cushion
by the time you make your own and do it right between buying the metal and the welding stuff then if you want quality powder coating it, you may as well buy a yakima system
i did see one other guy who is a plumber make one out of threaded black pipe and it looked crappy
