rear door cables on an extended cab

i have a 01 ranger and all four of my door latch cables on the rear doors are shot and need to replace, but my latches and handles are good. Is there a cheaper fix for this other than replacing all of the latches. The cables are good its the grommet or catch that is rotten on the cable itself

I have an 03 in Guam with the same problem. Must be the heat. I bought some two part epoxy and am going to try and glue the plug ends back in place. I will let you know how it goes.

A person called cherryboy.t on eBay sells an aluminum end to replace the crappy plastic ends.

One of my rear doors will not release at the bottom when I pull release handle. Top works, just bottom will not release. 1999 step side. Am I understanding that there is a cable on the handle that releases top and bottom?

Fixing the door.

<<<@!1!@>>>

Sometimes the plastic on the cables breaks, causing a very similar problem.
Check out this video. See if this helps..Jeff

Jeff,
This looks like the answer. My latches are no where near this clean so part of the problem has to be there. Thanks for the video!

Mine were really dirty also. Use the truck for a work truck. It nice when all the doors open.

Are the ends bad or is the whole cable bad?
If the ends are bad you can order these.

Ford Ranger Door Latch Lock Cable Repair Kit 4 Ends Equals 1 Kit 1997 to 2004 | eBay

If the cable it's self is bad. They won't work. But I do know next month cherryboy.t on ebay is going to be selling cables.

Thanks

Jeff

I have the same problem with my driver's side rear door. I can get the top latch to open but not the bottom. Trying to figure out how to get the door open to effect repairs. Any Ideas?
