Icon14 How to do a 06+ Tailgate?

I want the look of the 06+ tailgates. Anyone done this without buying a new tailgate. I know the ford emblem on the -06 tailgates have 3 little holes on them that fit into the tailgate. Does the 06+ side emblems, that are on the tailgate too, have 3 holes in the same place?

is there any drilling with the HUGE Ford emblem in the center of the tailgate also?

Help me out guys

Get big huge 06+ Ford emblem(lol). I got mine for about $20 from ford, but some people have said it's now up to $40. Get 06+ fender emblem. While at dealer, take a ton of measurements of a new truck's tailgate. Remove little blue oval. Lay down your masking tape and make your markings. Break-off all the alignment pins on the emblems.

If you don't want the "bubble" look of the 06+ blue oval emblems, but still want the size and want to match your existing grille emblem, order a tailgate emblem for a 04-05 F150. It's the same gel coat emblem as your grille, only 9" wide, just like 06+ Ranger tailgate emblems.

None of the tailgate emblems fit in any of your 05 and older tailgate holes. You need to break off all alignment studs from the emblems...this will make it a no-drill install and totally reversible if wanted down the road.

I laid the masking tape, measurements, markings, and emblems with the tailgate laying on the garage floor. I did all the stock 06+ tailgate measurements, only mirrored to cover up the holes from the old little blue oval.

kinda like this...

Thanks shane...So that was kinda hard to understand why'd you use masking tape, to make sure everything was centered? So Basically get the 2 new emblems, brake the pins off of both and just stick them on there? Will that adhesive be enough to hold the emblems on?

Sorry. I wanted them perfectly placed and perfectly centered. I used masking tape to make a 'box' that the emblem would sit in. Establish a centerline..build off that. The little 1/4" tape was to make my marks/measurements then straight line it and make my box.

Yep....get new emblems, break studs off, stick 'em on. It's how your fender and tailgate emblems are held on already. Yeah...they'll hold.

The only tailgate without any holes are 93-94 Ranger and 93+ mazda. All others have either 2 or 3(can't remember anymore) alignment holes for the little blue oval.

Only ones that don't are the 93-94's to my knowledge. I've got 3 here and all 3 have holes.

LOL @ oreo comment!! HAHA!

I actually acetoned the black lettering, masked the letters, then color-matched them. Leaving an inverse of stock. aka...oreo. lol. They're now Deep Wedgewood Blue with Chrome lettering. Stock is Chrome with black lettering. Still havn't gotten around to doing my fender emblems yet. The masking is one hell of a chore...

When I swapped beds mine had no holes in the tail gate, so I was able to set it up like a stock 06+ tail gate. I have all the measurements written down on a pad in the truck. If no one else get them up here the next time I go outside I'll try and get them up here.
