Probably a dumb question...

..and I am totally ready to be flamed for it. I did a search and could not find an answer.

I cannot, for the life of me find out what my corner lights do.

They are never on, I took the bulbs out and visually inspected them, then check my fuse panel. I turned on parking lights...blinkers...hi low...everything I could think of..they are never on..

corners/side markers..whatever you call them. I do not have Daytime running lights.

What the hell are they for and when are they supposed to be on?

It is an 2003 Ford Ranger Edge.

Thanks in advance.

They are suppose to come on any time the parking/head lights are on.

bingo, so now you know they should come on, now you need to find the culprit

check the wiring going to the corner light

Check the blinker fluid reservoir. Mine is beside the coolant reservoir, but I have a Mazda B-Series. Yours might be elsewhere.

replace the bulbs and try again, they could be burnt out but you cant see it. they are 194s (amber 194s if you have clears or 06+ corners)

Yeah they are ugly full amber corners that I nightshaded and the bulb has a silver tint on it that makes it a bit hard to see, at first I though I had used too much nightshade and it wasn't coming through but i pulled the bulbs and they don't come one at all.

I will do that for sure.

Edit: Found answer to fuse issue.

so bulbs or wires are the culprit I'm getting.??

Thanks to all. I will check those.

I wondered about that, because it's not like an even coating or anything, it is like a gradient that starts about 3/4 up towards the top. and encompasses mostly only the top.

Guess I'll pickup some bulbs tomorrow as there is no way to really test the wires at the moment...

Now would be a great time to own a multimeter...

Bulbs can some times look fine but still be brunt out if you have a mulit meter you could check the resistance of the bulb...but 194s are like 65 cents so i would just buy some.

How about doing the Side Marker/directional mod:

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...inker-mod.html

Straight forward and nice when done.

Definitely. I'm gonna have to go grab some wire and some connectors and shrink tubing, I like the way that looks, It really is strange that the sidemarkers do not already flash..seems pointless...

I agree, one of Ford better ideas; save a little wire.

The writeup is a good one easy to use and straight forward; I used it for my mod.

The funny thing is that once done, if the parking lights are off the side markers blink with the directionals, when the parking lights are on the side markers blink alternating with the directionals.

I like the alternating better but they look good.

luck on the mod.

Note: you can’t use LEDs in the side markers with this MOD because they flow of ccurrent changed depending what lights are on and an LED only works with the current in one direction.
Buy some high output amber bulbs, they work great.
