I'm trying to find a new way to secure my tool box. All I have now is a hole in the rail of my bed and box with a bolt down threw it with no nut on the bottom.

So how do u guys have your attached?

J hook.

 

2 bolts per side. I used 2 long extensions and set a box wrench on the top of the bolt and used the rails of the box to hold the wrench while i turned the ratchet. Had no spare hands around but got the job done.

 

So u ran them threw the side of the bed rail not the top

 

Yep, J bolts. The hook part catches the rail of the truck bed.

 

I put 2 or 3 sheet metal screws per side in mine because i have a drop in liner. I cant get bolts in it.

 

Those j hooks suck *** might try the. Again......

 

I never had a single problem with mine and it was one for 2+ years.

 

I used metal roofing screws... course threads, self tapping with 5/16th hexheads. 2 per side. Worked very well, and with a cordless drill and 5/16ths bit it takes no time to back them out for a quick removal of toolbox.

Mine isn’t in yet, as many things I have to do, but it will be secured to the backrack, not on the sides, (in bed box), it will have a mounting rail added across the backrack.

 

I have the edge bed rails, could I mount a tool box over them? And how?

 

Well it's J hooked for now see if it stays in place. I keep a lot of stuff in my box and it's a lot of weIght so we will see

 

Iv got mine ratchet strapped in.... works for me

negative, went through the top of the bed rail. why would any one go through the side? i drilled holes through the box, and went straight through the top of the bed rail. then bolted it down

 

If the top is rusty there might not be a choice....

 

i have j hooks in mine with lock nuts. the box still gets loose and moves around. it has rubbed through the paint on the top of the bed rails, if i try and tighten them up too much the hooks start crushing the top rail of the bed

Yea, those would be them. I think the other member had a metal box though.

i used j hooks and got the thickest weather stripping i could find and put it on the rails until i get some rail caps to protect my paint.

I used these. They clamp to the bed then you screw threw the tool box into them.
