PLEASE READ Tires, Lighting and Waag Bar

Hi everybody this is my first post so here goes. I did some searches on these topics but I wanted to double check some of the info. I have been holding on to these questions because the site wouldn't let me log in right away

I have an 04 Ranger FX4 with about 4,000 miles on it.

I have the stock crappy wranglers on the 16" wheels and I want to get new tires if it is worth it. I have read that the max tire size I can put on without rubbing or modification is 265/75/16 or 31X10.5. Correct me if I am wrong but those tires aren't actually taller just wider than my stock 245/75/16. How much larger L or W are they in approx. inches. Also which of the 2 optional sizes is a bigger tire?

I have a Waag sportster bar coming and I want to put some long range lights on it at the smallest 6". I have seen a pic of a waag with I think 8" Hella's on them and it looks pretty nice. However I can't find any CP ratings on Hella's, weird... So I have been leaning twords KC daylighters with 385,000 CP or the slim version with 300,000 CP. So my question is which lights would be the best on that waag bar because I don't know the dimentions of what can fit on it. The original Daylighters seem to be the brightest but they are also the deepest which kind of worries me of they will fit. Now I know the big l hellas with fit because I have seen the pic of them on it, and I really like the way they look because they are so big. The KC slimlights should also fit but they are smaller, but I don't know if they are brighter than the hella's. HID's are also out of the question because of the use vs. cost. Any other ideas would be great but I like the big look but I also want them very bright for long range. By the way I am in Wisconsin so durability is a big thing with hot, cold and salt.

Thanks for any help or comments, much appreciated!!

Keith...

The 31x10.50 is only slightly taller than the 245/75R16 but the 265/75R16 is over an inch larger in diameter.

The tire width on a 245 is about 9.6; The 31x10.5 and the 265 are about 10.5 and 10.4 wide respectively.

i think someone here on the site just recently got 33's on thier fx4 and didnt have any problems. there's a few others that have done it too (i think).

as for the lights.. someone else can help out with that too, lol. i have the 6" hella's on my bar, and they're aren't that deep at all. the waag bar is different from mine however, so, don't take what i have to say as anything actually worth knowing, lol.

anyhow, welcome to the site Keith! there's lots of people on here that will be able to help you out with this stuff, along with anythign else you may need help with, so, enjoy posting!!! when you get a chance, go into your UserCP menu and try to give yourself an avatar and a put down little bit about your truck in the Signature section! (Nevermind, just noticed you already did).. ok, enough from me. again, welcome and enjoy!

So 33's may fit but I will have to wait for some other replies. So far the larger tire would be the 265/75/16 over the 31X10.5's. By the way I was going to buy the Westin Ultimate Bull bar but they have had problems with fitting even 6" light in it. That is why they are giving away lights with it if you buy one now. They told me their lights were 5.75" and I wanted larger lights than that.

Another thing does anyone know where to buy nice clear corners not some cheapo's.

Thanks for the prompt replies!!

The largest size tire I've seen on a Ranger (without any rubbing) is 32. But I've been told the new FX4's have a little more room to fit in 33's. I'm not sure the exact numbers on them but I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.

BTW, I live in Appleton too.

I have 265/70R17s on my stock edge, no rubbing, thats about equal in overall size to a 265/75R16. Any 33x10.5x16 should fit as well. Its when people run 33x11.5 and 33x12.5 that they run into severe rubbing issues.

Well I just got 265/75's BFG all terrains put on and they fit and look great. I think I could have gone bigger after seeing them on my truck, but I am happy. I ended up getting $250 for my wranglers and then right now BFG has a $50 rebate when you buy 4 new tires. Bridgestone Dueller Revos also have $75 back if you buy 4, just a FYI.

I need to find someone with info on the CP of the hella lights. I also need to know how much room I have if I want to fit daylighters on that Waag bar. I think I am going to buy my clears on Ebay, they seem price wise the cheapest and they look the same as the more expensive ones??

Thanks for the help and info!

I have KC Hilites Daylighters they are 6" round lights. I went with Stainless Steel because of the look/durability issue as well. They are the long range version and will throw light well OVER 1 mile. I've had mine through one winter with about 50 hours of total use and they're AWESOME so far. The KC kit comes with everything you need to hookem up. I paid $140 for the SS set of 6" Daylighters...they are the "premium" model with the shock mounts and are the 130w version, they make 100w and 150w as well. Different price of course.

Well I got my tires, ordered my clears from ebay and I also ordered a set of th new KC 8" rally lights 130W. I will let everyone know how they are, but that will be a while since I have to wait for my Waag bar.

Thanks for the feedback!

130w dont even come close to the 150w I would know

BTW the 8" slims might look a little odd on the ranger for being so big. but another thing I HOPE YOU didnt buy direct from KC you got your *** handed to you on price

I'm looking for clear corners and Bridgestone Dueller Revo's for my truck to.
$75.00 rebate is a good incentive, I just can't justify spending that much $$$
at this time. I've been a little mod crazy lately.

On the WAAG site under pictures, Ford, there is a ranger with the sportster bar and he has the 8" Hella's on it. You can see that their is still some room in case of the KC's being a little bigger than the Hella's. As for the wattage, they only make 130W in the 8 inch KC's, I thought that was weird but the CP was still up there. I just liked how the bigger lights looked on the bar compared to the 6". I also was thinking about the daylighters but they are soo deep that I wasn't sure they would fit. I also couldn't find any CP info on the Di ck Cepek lights, and I know that wattage doesn't always matter so that is what kind of sucks. You could have a 150W light and a 55w light but if the reflector, etc is crap on the 150W then the 55W could actually throw off more CP.

I should be happy for now with all my purchases. Waag bar, Clear corners, BFG AT's, and 8"KC's. Thanks for all the help and info!!

first of all the daylighters arnt DEEP all the meet of the light is in the front not the back people have this miss conseption with the daylighters. and the design of the daylighters was for the 150w bacause of how hot they get its to help cool them off.

After seeing a close up pic of them, they don't seem that deep at all. From a lot of the articles that I read on them, it seemed like a lot of people have had problems fitting them. I wonder how close those would have been to the grill with a Waag bar. I have read that the 150W do get very, very hot so I wonder if that would melt the plastic on the grill if they were left on for a long period of time. Hopefully I will be happy with the 8" KC's, because they are supposed to be pretty slim like the slimlights. With the 130W the 8" Rally's put out 375,000 CP and compared to 6" 150W Daylighters at 385,000 CP. I wonder if I could put a 150W bulb in the 8" without any problems, I wonder what the CP would be out of them hmmmm?

By the way Redneckstone how do you like that light rack? I always wanted one of those but I wasn't sure how good it would fit my truck. Any pros or cons of it. Could you snap a couple pics of how that clamps on to the top and how the wiring was run for the lights.

Thanks!!
