Removing a supercab from it's frame
Hey guys,
I'm getting ready to remove a 2001 2-door supercab from it's frame and I was just wondering what would be the easiest way to do this. What are some of the DO NOTS?
How many bolts and electrical connections are holding it to the frame?
Thanks in advance,
Brian

I have swapped alot of 98-04 frames. I have a perfect setup for lifting the cabs with 2 beams in my garage. I hook up a comalong in the front and 2 2" wide straps in the back(one on each side). Here's a few pictures...
When I did this one I even lifted the motor at the same time and swapped the cab and motor both to the new frame.
This should give you a good idea how high you have to raise the cab.

I found out it would be a lot cheaper to replace the whole frame vs fixing the existing frame.
I can get a new frame for $310 and it would cost atleast $1500 to fix the frame I have now.
Here's some pictures

Anyway I always start under the hood and pull the radiator and unhook the a/c lines and all the wiring and hoses that connects to the engine. Then go underneath and disconnect the trans shift cable if its an automatic and the wiring harness that goes through the floor under the drivers seat. Then you have to disconnect the emergency brake cable and the ground wire on the passengers side frame(below the passengers seat but under the truck. Next the 6 body mounts. Your ready to lift it up! Here's the things that are easy to miss...
1 The trans cooling line that goes to the cooler on the radiator support.
2 The ground wire from the windshield wiper motor to the back of the head.
3 Ground on the ps frame
4 E brake cable
5 Clutch line on a stick

I would actually sell you the truck if I could find the right 2004 wiring harness and computer for my truck.
I originally bought the truck for the 4.0 SOHC and transmission in other words, I bought it as a doner vehicle.
But after I bought it I found out that I can't use the 2001 wiring harness in my 2004 Ranger because of the different clusters. I could obviously make this work if I put the 2001 cluster in my 2004, but I don't think that would look right.
I went on Car-Part.com last night and I seen where Ford made three different PCMs/ECMs for the 2004 Ranger with the a 4.0 and auto trans.
Here's the ID numbers 4L5A-APA, 4L5A-AMA and 4L5A-BCA & BCB
I'm assuming that if the salvage yard sold me the computer and wiring harness off the same truck then it would work, but I've leaned never to assume anything.

There's nothing wrong with my 2004 computer and wiring harness but it goes to my 3.0L that's in the truck now.
I was planning on putting the 2001 4.0 SOHC in my 2004 and I need a computer and a wiring harness that'll work with the 2004 + cluster.
If you have any other ideas please let me know.

I'm definitely going to test the 2004PCM and wiring harness out while the while it's still in the 2001. It would be horrible if I did the engine swap and it didn't work.
I asked which PCM I need on RPS and someone PMed me telling me there was a reason that Ford used 3 different computers in 2004, but he never told me why and he also said something about Supercesions. Does anyone know what that means?

Probably 2 of the pcm's are standard and automatic and the 3rd superceeded one of them with some sort of update. It will be difficult to run the 01 motor in the truck with the 04 harness and computer because you will need it plugged into an 04 dash harness and frame harness(fuel pump). The plugs all changed as well as the fuse box location in 04.The motor swap would almost be easier than the dash and frame harness swap. The you will also need the keys from the pcm donor truck or you won't even be able to get it to crank or run because of the pats system.
