Hey guys, I'm new to the Ford Ranger scene. I just bought a gold 2001 XLT with real low miles. I love to customize my vehicles. It took me a while to think about what I wanted to do to my truck but I think I finally decided. I would like to put some Bullitt Mustang rims on it, Black Spyder Projector lights, and Spyder LED tail lights, as well as the LED third brake light. Along with this I would like to paint my grill and bumper to match the rest of the truck.
I have the stock 2001 Ford Ranger XLT bumper without fog lights.

So my question is...should I try to get my hands on a Ranger Sport lower bumper, one with fog lights, a 2006 ford ranger bumper(http://www.--------------------/show...hlight=valence), or should I just go ahead and paint it? If I try to get a different bumper, how much would that cost me?

Also...any idea how much it will cost me to have a bumper and grill painted?

Thanks.

I would get an 06 and that can be found at a bunch of places.

rockauto.com
certifit.com
junkyards around your town
ebay
ford dealer

And the price will range from $50 -~$300. Depends on the shop and what prep you do to it.

Is that the price for the bumper or just for the paint job?
I'd like a good paint job that will last a while.

That was referring to the price of the paint.

To paint a bumper, it'll most likely cost you about $50 for materials. i'd say no more than 3 hours labor.
If you take it to a shop.

i took my stuff off very easy then just wash with soap then i used purple power wash then a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water scrub pretty good (all steps) let dry then spray the color down i used about 3-4 coats then about 3-4 coats of clear and let dry over night. very simple just about 2 hrs of paint wait paint wait and so on i set them on saw horses so i could get all angles at once. if you have any more questions just shoot me a question. look at my albums to see how it all came out if you want

You didn't sand or scuff your bumper first?
Heres how i woulda done it
Take bumper off
give it a quick wash
Get some 120 grit sand paper, some 320 grit sand paper, and a red 3m scotch pad.
Sand using the 120 grit first.
then hit it with the 320.
then wash and rinse.
Use a good primer on the bumper. put first coat on and let dry.
Any area that didn't come out to your liking, hit with the red scotch pad then shoot some primer over it again.
then shoot your color. 2 or 3 coats would be suffice, until the primer is completely covered and you can't see it anymore.
let dry over night, then spray with some clear coat. as many coats as you want. I'd do a ton since its a bumper and is bound to get rock chipped.
