I'm looking into purchasing this bed panel but it has some damage on it. There is a crack/tear in, what looks like, the rear of the panel where the taillight assembly attaches, and then a hole/puncture on, what looks like, the top edge of the bed.

I was wondering if this would be easily repairable. I have no fiberglass experience, so I may (if purchased) take to someone to have fixed & sprayed DSG. Think that could be done fairly cheaply?

I don't know I recently had to replace the same panel on my truck, it was a little more damaged then the on pictured and I am sure it could have been fixed, but with labor to do the repair it was cheaper to get a new one.
Then you figure labor, paint and material is going to run you 250-300 just to spray the fender. It doesn't make much difference in cost to touch it up, or paint the whole thing.
I would look for a non damage used one or buy new don't worry about the color. It will cost the same to paint the whole fender.

 

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you to get a new fender, and where did you buy from?

I found a few different bed panels online ranging from $250-400+, but when I called about them I learned (or, at least, was told) that they didn't come with provisions for the gas filler. Since I had no experience with fiberglass and the thought of cutting it out of my old panel and molding it into a new one concerned me, I thought it might be easier/cheaper to just get a used panel/bed.

 

Go to a junk yard and look for one. Paint would be way cheaper then all this other work. Plus you can do all the prep work for paint and make it a little more cheaper.

I think that's one of the places I already called. They said it didn't have a fuel filler/door. Did you get yours from there and can verify that it does?


As for a junk yard, I've been calling all the ones around here for months with no luck.

 

Is your door damaged? the leftside is going to have the fuel filler molded in you just might have to swap your old door onto it.
No mine was an insurance job through a buddies shop fender, bumper, tailgate and paint was about 2800. I am sure he got it somewhere local to the west coast through his shop. Shop around $ 250 for a fender plus paint your looking at around 500 complete if you do the prep work yourself and can find someone to spray it you could probably get it done for 350-400

Good luck I am off to the junkyard found a center console yesterday and hid it going back to pick it up. Let me know how it comes out.

 

Thanks, TR, but I ended up going with the used one off eBay. With shipping, it was $140 cheaper and, since they'd both need paint, I can't imagine having those 2 spots repaired will eat up more than the difference.

I do have my filler door and it's undamaged, but when I called about those fenders and asked if they had the filler neck molded in, the CS reps (...) didn't think so. If I had known they did, I would have purchased one of those months ago instead of playing this waiting game...

Looking at the pictures at all the body parts store none show a gas door or area for one. Just doesn't seem that could offer them as a replacement part with out the filler access, but then who knows.
Either way you go it will fix the problem remember it's just money lol!
