Painting... General Questions.

Ok. So I really like the 2-tone schemes on the newer FX4 Rangers (with the grey stripe on the bottom). Anyway, got me thinking about how one could do this?

Can you paint over paint? I mean would this just be a matter of taping off the lower section and hitting it with some automotive paint, followed by clear coat?

Or do would you have to remove the paint there first? Never really done any research into painting so I was just curious if any of you had any more experience then me.

You probably need some adhesion promoter or something along those lines, but I'm pretty sure you can just paint right on top. Just sand it down to rough it up.

sand with a 400-800 hundred your choice, tape off the lines that you want paint/ then clear coat, you will feel the lines where you taped it off even after clear coat though its a ton of work to make it so you wouldnt

I would wet sand with 320, mask it and shoot it. There are tricks if you are worried about the paint line but if you mask it in the crease of the body line it shouldn't be noticable. You could do it in an afternoon if you had everything ready.
