Painting over "rubberized rock guard"

Just wondering if anyone out there has painted over your spray-can rock guard jobs? I was just kind of thinking about how well it would stick to the rock guard, what kind of prep is needed? I want to paint my entire truck with rock guard, I would do it with bed liner but it's just too expensive...And paint some winter camo over top of it, some flat white, grey, and gunmetal. I was thinking I would have to scuff the rock guard up with a scotch brite or something before sprayed the colours on top of it? Or is it going to flake and peel? Maybe i would have to use something like that Krylon Plastic paint stuff?

Thanks

also have been told that it would be in my best interest to spray adhesion promotor after the rock guard, then primer, then paint of choice. thoughts?

If you just spray bomb it with that cheap stuff it's going to look like garbage. Please don't do it.

Have you seen how his truck looks now?

I have seen people spray the rubberized stuff in wheel-wells and then spray flat black over top after it dries. No mention of anything other than that.
Just don't let it get dirty (duh) before you spray the paint on it.

yeah really..no need for failboats here. i've boarded a long time ago. yeah i was talking to a few more people, my buddy has had his on his rx7 for a few years now on the bottom of the doors and he used the same product i was looking at, primed it, then painted over..it should turn out ok i think. if not, big deal. my truck will still look better than it does now.

I painted over mine about two weeks ago since the spray-can rubberized uncoating started fading horribly. All I used was the Duplicolor Universal Black auto paint and 2 coats of clear coat.

All in all it came out nicely! For prep I figured since the undercoating had a good texture the paint would have something to stick to so I never sanded or anything. I'm at work now but when I get home I'll post some pics!

That looks pretty good. I like the steppy bed on the old body cab too, unique. That last picture is amazing, it needs to be your avatar.
