I did the same on my hood, works much better that way!

 

I need to get some of this. I looked around my Home Depot real quick, but i didn't see any, so i'll have to go to Lowes and poke around.

 

Both the Lowe's and Home Depot I went to had it with the cans of regular spray paint on the top shelf.

 

Usually in the spray paint section. All those Plasti-Dip products tend to be in that section no matter where ya go.

 

So is this stuff like a spray paint consistency until it dries? I always thought it was a gloppy, melted wax like consistancy.

 

Yep... however, it tends to sputter a bit if you let off and hit the button again. That can throw little globs onto the surface you're 'painting', but if it isn't too big, it won't be hardly noticeable with more coats on top of it. The stuff kinda blends together.

The stuff in the little dipping can is the gloppy melted wax you're describing... the solvents in the spray can version makes it go on smoother and is better for these kinds of applications.

 

Why didn't I know about this stuff when I was doing my radio bezel?! Damnit

It is similar to spray paint, yes. The difference is you can spray it on heavy and it won't look bad like spray paint. And it dries way faster.

 

Well now I'm considering redoing my bezel... Again.. Would it hold up ok? What colors can you get?

 

How does this stuff match up to the black rubberized interior parts? I bought some SEM color coat for my new explorer console but this might be better.

for those of you who are wondering about the clear, i used it on my hood. its not shiny it pretty dull

 

On a high use area, I don't suggest it. Peeling is very likely to occur. Keep in mind, I'm just basing my opinion on having it on my rockers for like not even a week. Others may say otherwise. I've you've got a spare bezel, by all means try it out! Just be sure to report back with results!

Use tried and true materials on interior panels. Like the very high quality SEM product or even Krylon Fusion.


I wouldn't. lol. It's already peeling away from where my boot hits when jumping in, and pants rub when getting out. It's rubberish....so the pant legs just grip to it. And when I lean in for grabbing something from the passenger seat or console or whatnot, my knees hit it. But your truck sits ALOT lower than mine, so you probably won't have the issue I have with it. Pics tmrw.

I'm very pleased with what the product told me, and fully plan on scuffing and shooting real paint on it. Likely a textured black product possibly.

 

Yeah mine hasn't started peeling at all. I don't hit it when I get in and out though.

 

So it seems like plati-dip is a lot like most products.. meaning some people love it and some people don't. I am glad that it is, that means that I am going to have to try it out for myself!

Hopefully I can get to it this afternoon. For those of you that tackled it, how long did it take to complete?

so if you dip your car all one color wouldnt you have to change the color on your registration?

You mean Insurance?...From what i gather it's considered "temporary", since you can peel it right off. I been thinking of dipping my truck this summer maybe, just want to make sure how it handles in winter.

 

God you're stupid. I just yesterday had to go talk to my state farm agent because I plasti-dipped my chrome 17s. Dropped my insurance premium significantly.
