You can get one of the original, universal Bed X-Tenders made by AMP Research, sold by Westin among others. Although it doesn't look like it when assembled, the center section is telescopic, allowing it to be adjustable to fit many different models. The only thing you need to do to make it fit the extra narrow Flareside is shorten the center tubes by 4". Since the cut ends will be hidden, this is not a difficult precision job. Page 2 of these installation instructions show you how:

Do a search on ebay for one. I got mine on ebay for $50. It was from a toyota pickup, and it fit right in.

The list below is according to westin's website
All the ones listed below use the same part number and instructions for the westin bed-extender.

CHEVY: colorado, S- series pickups

Ford: ranger

Hummer: H1

Gmc: canyon, S- series pickups

Isuzu: hombre

Mazda: B-series pickups

Mitsubishi: pickup

Nissan: pickups standard bed

Toyota: All pickups

I got my extender on eBay, too. It was from a truck with a wider bed and needed to be adjusted narrower for the Ranger - easy.

I had to get the pivot brackets separately since they weren't included with the extender. A pivot kit from AMP Research cost me $10 including shipping.

EDIT: Be careful when shopping for used ones. Some of the OEM extenders that are factory options on new vehicles are not adjustable for width and usually use a different pivot arrangement. Not only does this limit what they will fit, It also makes them very expensive to ship, due to oversize dimensions. The universal, adjustable aftermarket extenders can be broken down into several pieces for shipping in an ordinary sized box.
