be glad the cop let you take it off on your own time. When my friend got pulled over, the cop made him rip it off right there on the side of highway in front of him.

I would rather rip it off right there. I had that happen once with my old car back when I was 16. He didn't give me a ticket because I ripped it off in front of him.

i have 20% on my back 3, and i wish i had gone darker. during the day i can see right thru it no prob, either inside the cab, or outside the cab. at night, i can still see thru it a lil bit. but its much more difficult, if im inside the cab its not a big deal... but heres the deal, and i see no one bothered to mention this.

when your INSIDE your truck, its darker inside than it is outside, so u can see out very easily. however, the cop who is outside where its lighter - even at night, CANT SEE IN so, while u think its 'ok' cause YOU can see out, try being in his position and not being able to see in! u can test this theory urself.

I guess just doing the right thing and being legal is too much to ask for? You got the ticket, now pay it, doing away with the tinting and you're good to go.

I run 13% on my driver and passenger side windows, have been for 3 years, never a problem with them. I can see out them just fine at night, but I have great vision. The only time I have any sort of trouble is if it's pitch black, and raining hard, it's hard to clearly identify things in my mirrors. The tint is REALLY closely matched to the factory tint on the rear and supercab windows, and light enough that you can see in a little when it's bright out. What are you guys talking about a cop seeing in your window? If you get pulled over, roll the windows down.
If it's not raining out, I'll generally roll my windows down if I get into traffic with a cop nearby, but even without, I never get a second look from them.
My girlfriend had a volvo a few years back with 20% all the way around, and cops were always staring that car down it seems like. Wierd...

Mine is tinted to match my factory rears and I have done this on my last 2 trucks, also tinting the same % as factory on my trans am that had no tint, as long as it is somewhat transparent durring the day, cops usually don't care. You got busted, so just take it off and get it re done in some % that is more reasonable........

In New Hampshire, anything behind the driver is legal ie: back windows, If you get stopped by DOT in NH, they scrape your tint with a razor, they scratch it. I have my windows done, i know its illeagle, if they pulled me over for it, then ide take it off, because in NH they dont screw around, written warning and take it off, 2nd time you lose your licence 30 days, 3rd time for a year.

My advise is, if the cops know you got tinted windows theyll be looking for you and ide take it off, it wont hold up in court i got a doctors note saying i can have it, other then that, you wont win. Ide just take it off.

If you want them tinted still and your willing to risk your licence ide take the tint off, and re do them, changing windows is a pain in the dink.

Dont take the post the wrong way, NH and CA laws are way different....I wasnt trying to be an *** about it

Eh, well in California that isn't entirely true. It is safe to say that at least 25% of the cars in southern California are illegally tinted (that would be a conservative guess).

Just to give an example, I shopped around for window tinting, I called places, went into places. Not a single shop ever mentioned that tint on the sides is illegal (which it is).

Getting limo tint on the side windows is a bit foolish though IMO.

The deal with tint is this. The cops don't care about how well *you* can see through the tint.......they care if *they* can't see you.

No matter what percent the tint is, looking out isn't the problem.....you can see fine at night with any tint.......just better make sure you have bright reverse bulbs to see backing up.

The problem isn't out, it's in. If an officer is outside your car and he/she can't see you, well you're going to have problems. 1st question they ask is "why so dark, hiding something?"

Just stick with what's legal in your state and you'll be fine. Not to mention they'll be less of these sad threads.

ah screw that....ive got 5% all the way around....they can kiss my a$$ about tint laws....i have seen NUMEROUS law enforcement vehicles, undercover and non undercover with ridiculous tint jobs. I got a ticket and went to court and fought it. I brought pictures of these cop cars along with a lawyer to the hearing and i had it thrown out.

yea id thought it would be cool to have all blacked out so i put double limo on back 3 windows and 5% on the front 2 and at night i couldnt see **** and when u think about it if u get into a crash at night cus u couldnt see the car they are gunna come after you cus of the tint and it also bugs your eyes at night cus the interior lights reflect off the windows and drives me nuts...so in the end i just took it all off and left it stock

The question is not if it's a legal tint or not. The question is are you doing it to see if you can get away with breaking the law? That's what it sounds like to me.
Sure like one guy said, I do it to protect my interior...... I can show you pictures. Yep, and most of those pictures will be from cars in junk yards with no windows. If you take care of your vehicle you won't get extreme damage till it's way past it's time.
Your excuses for having illegal tinting is no different than the people that make excuses about not stopping at redlights and stop signs. So the next time someone pulls out in front of you just remember not to ***** cause he's doing the same thing you are doing. Breaking the law.
Is it really that cool to tell your buddies how you figured out a way to get around the law?
Obey the law, the only one you impress is yourself.

Everyonce in a while, i'll see a car that looks like the windshield is tinted some, b/c you cant clearly see the driver..(looks dark). It may not be tinted but idk. That can't be legal......can it? not even 35 or 50%.

i had my 97 ranger tinted limo in the rear and medium on the fronts (35%)... never had a problem.

on my current ranger, i went with limo all around. no problems for 6 months or so, then i got two fix-it tickets in a week. i removed the front driver and passenger tint, had the tickets signed off, and had new tint put back on a couple weeks later, of course the redo was dark (20%) instead of limo (5%). that was almost 18 months ago. havent had any problems since then.
