Tinted Tail/Headlights

Tinted Tail/Headlights
Hey guys. I'm going to attempt to tint my tail lights for sure, and depending on how good it goes maybe my headlights too. I was told that Duplicolor Metalcast Smoke is the best to use for the paint color, and to use a clear coat after. I bought the Metalcast Smoke, and the guy at the parts store wouldn't sell me clear until I knew what kind I needed... Laquer or enamel? So if anyone knows which clear coat I need to use so it doesn't react wrong with the metalcast, I'd appreciate it SO much. If anyone's done this project before, let me know. Thanks guys!
Also if there are any prep secrets for prepping the plastic before I spray it... much appreciated.

you were told wrong.
VHT niteshades is the best thing to use for tinting tails and its available at most Pepboys or Autozones.
DONT tint your headlights. its illegal and a stupid idea because it cuts down your light output and do you really want less light at night?
go return the metalcast and buy some VHT and get automotive clear coat.
and here is a link for everything you need to know

I only know with tinting with Nightshade that you use regular dupi-color clear if there is such a term lol.
make sure you clean them real good so no dirt or grease is on them. clean them alcohol.
DO NOT TINT YOUR HEADLIGHTS!!! It is so unsafe. you need your head lights to see in the dark as well as to let on coming traffic know your there. Why would you want to impare that. If you must... get head light covers so you can take them off when it gets dark.

Niteshades takes 3 x's longer than tinting clear coat and requires WAY more sanding
I have did it both ways and the best way is to get about a cup of clear and add a spoonful of black. mix and shoot. i used duplicolor's paintshop brand since its premixed and ready to spray out of the can. It takes lots of coats but you dont want it to heavy. Alot easier to regulate the darkness as well.
Like the others said DO NOT tint your headlight housing. Very dumb IMO

I say use the VHT and spray regular clear. Thats what i did on mine...
As far as headlights go. Please DO NOT Tint the Head Lights... Get HIDs they look better and they perform better.... 3000k yellow works great for fogs. 4300K Pure white with a hint of yellow, is the brightest. 5000k Is Pure White (looks a little blue but its white lights.) And Is best for performance, Looks. 6000k is blueish white. (less light output but still quite a bit) 8000k is iceburg Blue ( Everything appears blue and suck in rain.) 10000k is very blue. 12000k is blueish purple. And 15000k is Purple and almost no light output is helpful.
GO WITH HIDs NOT TINT ON THE HEADLIGHTS

Yeah, the safest way to achieve the black headlight look is to pain the interior of the headlights, buy the black aftermarket headlights, or use a vinyl tint that is easily taken off if you get pulled over or decide you need the use of your headlights back
