Why is everything painted
Ok I am probably gonna catch some flak over this one but why did ford paint everything on the edges. I prefer the chrome and gray plastic foglight area and black fender flares. I don't know but when they paint everything it looks like some street truck and as much as I scratch it up going hunting it looks worse. Anyway just wanted to question this.

I think it is more of a trend that started a few years ago. As you hang around on this forum and other ranger forums like RPS, you will notice most guys are going for color matched everything. Personally, I like the chrom accents. Which is why I got a 4th gen Ranger with chrome bumpers, chrome grille surrond, and chrome wheels. We are a dieing breed I think.
Yeah, but neither does paint.
Chrome don't get you home.

i bought an xlt cuz i couldn't stand the solid colour look of the sport or the edge packages. even the fx4 didn;t apeal since it had those unproporsioned fender flares with the fake allen bolts. i've got chrome on my front bumper, mirrors and tail pipe. as for my rear bumper, it's painted to match.
i do agree with zabeard. it's cheaper also. i noticed this when i worked for a bumper factory. the metal for truck bumpers is getting less and less. example. i worked for a chevy truck bumper feeder. the metal was only like 6" tall and ran the length of the bumper. the rest was plastic. either the grey textured stuff or painted to match.
in my opinion, it's a joke especially on a fulsize truck.
trucks = heavy duty
it's hard beng heavy duty with plastic.

Morris...you have a chrome front bumper? what? .......painted bumper cover........
Ford had, and still has, this whole "monochromatic" themes going on with certain trim levels.....EDGE came out as a "sport" pkg, much like the Sport, much like the Splash. Some punk kids, like me, think chrome is for old people....and we prefer the all paint thing. That's just my way of looking at it.

I only drive my monochromatic edge in mild conditions so the flares have held up great. Plus they put a special elastic paint that allows the flares to flex and the paint not to bust.
Oh well personal preference I guess.

Whoa?! I know this will vary per person, but that is a brave statement to make. You know that chrome is a more expensive finish for metal than paint?
I obviously think the opposite is true. Of course this idea probably comes from my old school mentality. I like the led sled look with a pair of shiny chrome bumpers....it is just awesome!

I used to have alot of chrome and liked the look, just too much maintence to keep it looking clean. That's why I got rid of my chrome bumpers, wheels, tips, and trim. If I still had time like I did when I was in high school to sit around and polish all my chrome everyday I'd probably still have it.
