FYI Bug deflector info 2008

I dont know if this applies to the 08 ranger but I got a bug deflector for my truck today and the contours are correct and everything but I cant mount it . I dont know if the 07 rangers came with aluminum hoods or not but if you have an 08 and get a bug deflector for it thats says it will fit an 07 check it out in the parking lot before you leave.

On the 07 there is suppose to be a rubber strip on the bottom part of the hood and that is removed and then the bug deflector uses those stock holes to be installed. Well in my truck (08) that rubber strip isnt there so there are no holes to mount it. you can actually see where there are dimples that might be drilled to do it but i wouldnt do it that way.

Anyways just some FYI

On my 06 I bought a black bug shield from Ford and it fit just fine. It works like you say where the rubber strip needs to be removed. The holes lined up for me and everything. Only problem I had was the cheap fasteners ford gave didnt hold the shield to the hood tight enough as I wanted it to so i just found some plastic screws and anchors that did a better job at a hardware store.
No drilling required

I felt up in the cavitity with my hands to see if it could be drilled but it tapers down to the nose of the front of the hood so it cant be drilled......which I wonder how the dealership puts them on? i will take another look tomorrow before i take it back

^^Good point...

Or, just get one from the Ford dealer and call it good. When I had my 04, the dealer was the only one who had one anyway...

I have a 2008 Ranger and they were pre-drilled, just a matter of mounting the deflector.
