Would you accept this??
As some of you may know, I recently got in an accident and to make a long story short, the repair work cost me $1400+
I got my truck back today from the local Ford bodyshop, and I noticed a few things wrong with the paint..... Maybe I'm too OCD, but at the same time, considering the price I paid, I would've expected a little better quality, especially because they had the parts painted and finished before my truck was even there. All they had to do when my truck got there was bolt on the new fender and header plate...
Sorry the pics are so terrible, but the defects are really hard to capture on a camera...
The paint on the fender looks alright but there are a few dirt marks in the clear coat. I tried to photograph it as best as I could, but I'm sure some of you know what I mean already...
In this photo, its the speck that is in the top section of the picture. I tried to highlight it for you to see
In this one it is right in the middle.
So my question is, would you accept this work if it was your truck??
I had voiced my concerns with both the manager and the receptionist about how **** I am about my vehicle and also how I was a little uneasy about the quality of work done at the dealerships....
On the bright side, I went to a local collision shop and they quoted me a lower price for the work, and ford matched that price for me... I went with ford because my dad originally had gotten me the quote and signed a form stating we were going ahead with the work, so I was kind of obligated in that respect to use the ford autobody shop.

no, and i assure you ford will eventually fix it. About 3 years ago i had a little girl kick open her dads door it creased my bed pretty good right on the styleside fender. Took it to a local dealership to get fixed, literally got a phone call an hour later to come back - the body shop apprentice wrecked my truck, he caught the bedside on the shop door frame.. anyway i was pissed bit ok with it being as they said they would fix it. so went back a week later there was orange peel and little bubbles in the clear, the body shop manager was a D bag about fixing it so i started going up the chain, got in touch with the Ford MoCo regional body shop guy, he came down to the shop and watched his guys paint the bedside 3 times until it was right.

Okay thanks everyone. I'm gonna give them a call today and take it back...
The paint seems to match and looks blended well enough... I'll be able to tell better today in the full sunlight.
They put on a new fender (pre-painted by them) and also a new header panel (I think thats what its called) its the panel that the headlights bolt into... I have yet to check under the hood for the quality of paint that they put on the header panel, but I'll get around to it today...
I'm half tempted to tell them to take a fender off one of the 58 rangers they have on their lot and put it on mine.... but then, it most likely won't match...

When i wrecked my truck in January i bought a fender from one of my dads friends for $80 took it to my girlfriends dad and had him paint it for $200 no orange peel and it blended great.I dont understand why they charged you $1400 and didn't even paint it right. It wouldn't have came out of the paint booth till they done it right if it was me. My ocd kicks in when it comes to my truck lol

It's going back monday. The receptionist was the only person there at the time when I picked up my truck (after hours) and so I didn't feel the need to make her day miserable, and I didn't have another way home, so naturally I had to take the truck.
I washed the entire truck last night and the dirt in the clear is even worse than I first noticed...
On friday when I phoned the autobody shop, the woman was "quite surprised" the job was not acceptable for me......
We'll see how this goes..
As for the $1400 bill, that was one of the cheaper quotes I got.

So I took it back to ford on monday and they said they would fix it for me. The manager did not look pleased to see me, and he didn't even apologize about it all... I told them for my hassle and inconvenience, they could put the new emblem I purchased on my tailgate to replace my fading P.O.S. emblem... which they did without a fuss...
When I picked up my truck, my dad was with me and the manager was suddenly much happier about dealing with me. He even came out to look at my truck with me to make sure I was happy. They did not re-do the entire fender, it appears they just wet-sanded the trouble spots.
When I told him I was surprised they would put this fender on my truck considering the shape it was in after painting, he replied "the reason we didn't do anything about it is because it was to industry standard"
He then went on to explain that (apparently) even the new vehicles coming from the factory have paint defects such as this (I call BS). He told me he could show me new vehicles on the lot that also had these defects....
He then fed me the classic "we just want our customers to be happy" line, but I must say they did a pretty good job. I will have to hit it with a polish and a coat of wax to blend the spots where they wet-sanded or whatever they did, but I really just wanted my truck back.
I hesitated giving them the vehicle for the second time because I didn't want them to wash it! I just spent the long weekend polishing all the swirls and crap out of the paint, and when I got it back the first time, they had "washed" it (they should have called it a scratch wash) because I could see new swirls in the paint from their shoddy washing techniques (sigh...)
