Bed lined my rear rocker panels

I picked up Dupli-color's bed armor kit on sale. This role on kit is pretty nice!!

The scuff pad that came with the kit was garbage, so I used 100 grit sand paper, and then my wire wheel. Got the rust off, cleaned and prepped, and went to town.

This stuff is MESSY!! but it looks nice.

Prepped and ready. There is some bare metal, but most of it is down about to the primer.
Instructions say to just scuff the paint, but I dont trust a scuffed surface lol.

It call for 2 coats, but I put on about 2 1/2 coats of this stuff. Oh, and if you get this stuff, shake the bedliner can before you open it. I didnt, and had to mix the stuff for like 5 minutes to get it all mixed.

This stuff claim to be fade resistant from UV exposure, also it has no pot life, and I still have 9/10 of this stuff!!! It claims to never dry up while in storage, so I can use this stuff later.

I will bed line it on the VERY bottom rocker panels all the way around, but not up as far as I did the back.

I only did the back up that far because the mud flaps ate a hole in my paint on both sides a little farther up than half way.

It started rusting on one side, and it wouldnt have been long for the other side to start rusting. I figured I could either leave it and let it eat my truck, or bed line it lol.

Oh and another thing. The stuff that they apply to the panels on the very bottom before they paint it.....what is that stuff?

I got down to it with the wire wheel and saw that it was white.

Looks good. You should do it that height all the way around and on the tailgate. Should help hide that dent.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. Been wanting to do something like this on mine.

Thats not a dent. I didnt notice it in the picture, but it really looks like one lol.
Thats just some sanding dust that I ran my finger through.

And yeah, I have something that im mocking up for my license plate that will require me to bedline that bottom lip on the tailgate.

Pretty sure its some sort of paint with plastic shot inside of it. Its fords form of rock guard.

I would go ahead and do the whole truck that height. I can't stand when people do different heights looks unfinished lol.

will bedliner stop rust from spreading? or will rust come through the bedliner? im thinking about bed lining every seam on my truck, and under the hood, this prevents moisture build up and eventually rust. I thought about this after seeing some rust bubbles show up on the inside of my hood on my 08.
I would only really be putting a coat of liner on the insides of the doors, hood and tailgate, where the sheet metal skin folds over the door frame. If this duplicolor stuff is legit, i might consider doing the bottom half of my truck as well if it prevents rust.

and you should def go up to the body line

Here are some after pictures. It was really hard to get a fine line on some small parts, but It only needed a TINY bit of touch-up.

It will be MUCH better when I finish the bumper and bed line the bottom part of the tailgate.

It looks good, but if you're gonna just do the back I would do the lower part of the tailgate too.

Edit: Never mind, just scrolled back up and saw this was already in your plans, haha. Looks good!

the white stuff is just the factory chip guard, its similar consistency to sprayed in bedliner sprayed through the same kind of gun.

how are you liking the new duplicolor liner? i did my bed in their old liner and it wasn't the best, but the new stuff (that you used) seems like its supposed to hold up better, looks thicker too

I'm lovin it. This stuff is pretty thick. Also, because its a roll on, its a lot more "chunky" than some spray on bedliners or undercoating.

I use a pressure washer to get any dirt off though, because this stuff holds onto anything that touches it lol.

Wirelessly posted

You ought to do the same line all the way down the side with the bedliner...give it that FX4 look. I like it.

^^ i think thats his long term plan just takes time

Taylor: Good to know that stuff actually holds up. I used the last kit as a roll on, but i think its more so for spray on...because i did 3 or 4 coats on it and it didn't look nearly that thick it took 2 coats before i couldn't see the color of my bed anymore hah. and i've got a new bed now that the body shop did some cheap *** liner in and its even worse, doesn't even look like they prepped the bed before spraying. I'll have some work to do this summer.

Prep is the key. Especially for this stuff, because it LOVES to come off with the tape lol.

The instructions for this roll on kit say to clean and "scuff" the surface for prep. Yeah right.

The scuff pad that came with the kit was smoother than my dish sponge in the house LOL.

I used the pad for a couple of seconds, and threw it on the ground.

yeah i didn't even bother with the pad it came with...its just a scotch brite pad isn't it? haha I used a palm sander with 120 grit and went to town on it...cleaned it off and rolled it on...but i think i had it on for maybe 7 months before my truck got hit. and part of that was winter so its not like i had anything in it...the bed i have now ive had for a year and it needs a lot of touch ups....but I wanna line-x it in the future so i don't care so much to re-do it all...i'll just use canned crap for touch ups
