Sell my truck for a Sport Trac...what do u think?

o so i was at the junk yard today looking around and i they have a 2001 sport trac with the 4.0 SOHC, 5 SPEED!!! it has 4.10 gears with rear L/S. it has 109,xxx miles on it. the pass side spindle broke and the tire flew off similar to what just happened to me. it messed up the pass side fender. also the driver door is dented in pretty bad...but i work at a body shop so i could easily get it fixxed. it has power everything and it has a vinyl floor.....basically the ultimate set up....my plan is to put my stereo, superlift, aussie, tires and wheels and basically strip my truck and make it stock again.... and put what ever i can on the ST....then sell my truck.....so im pretty sure the superlift will go on it but i what to make sure...what do u guys think?

yep the superlift will work. only thing youll need to do is flip it to wear the axle is below the spring and then its just like a ranger

ive been throwing the idea around about getting a sport trac. but i dont make enough to have another payment. sure would be nice 2 have 4 full doors and 4wd

Go for it. I had an 05 Sport trac and loved it. I kick myself sometimes for getting rid of it, but I wasn't using it how I had been in Oregon.

Front suspension is the same. The rear is spring under 31 spline 8.8. Mine had rear discs, although I think some might have had drums?

im just thinking that the 4 full doors are sick...and the 4.0 with the 5 speed has got to be a pretty rare set up...also power everything with vinyl floor is wierd too....and 4.10 will be a lot better than my 3.73...but i think rangers look sicker....idk...ima go take a closer look at it tomorow...

01 had drums

the kit should be a direct fit, the 01 came with the smaller 11.25 brakes, should match your superlift knuckles, also the 01's used the same front diff bracket as the rangers, so thats good too

are the 01's live axle or PVH...what all would i need to put my manual hubs on it....and ill put my rear discs on it....or my whole axle and put the 4.10s in it cause mine is already spring over.....but swapping breaks and doing spring over would probably be easier...

Live axle on the sport trac.
4.10s are harder to find but mine was also. Manual trans is somewhat rare.
Vinyl floor is standard even with power everything. I think they were all like that, at least every one that I drove.

The Sport trac is a little boring looking stock, but look great lifted in my opinion.

First step on mine was the body lift and 33x12.50s on 15x8s.

Meh, I never needed another 2 feet in the bed of mine.

I really just wanted to comfortable carry 4-5 adults, be able to wheel, tow, have a bed, etc.

The sport trac worked awesome for me. We made a lot of trips with four adults (sometimes five) up to Mt Hood, the beach and other places. It was comfortable, had plenty of room for our junk, and would go anywhere. With the tailgate down you had six feet. I don't think I ever put dirt bikes in the bed, we usually used a trailer anyway.
With 4.88s, front/rear lockers and disconnected sway bars it was very capable. It also towed very well, especially after a bigger transmission cooler and trailer brake controller. It was a lot more unique than my F150 because you don't see many lifted sport tracs.

It just sucks that I didn't get a chance to use it more. I would have loved to get out in the mountains and desert and explore more with it. I use to run into Jeep guys on the trails in the Tillamook State Forest and they would be shocked to find me deep on the same trails that they were running. Pulling out some stuck Jeeps was even more fun! But we moved here and there is almost nowhere to wheel. Just a few places that are several hours away and pay by the day type of deal, I freaking hate it. I don't so much go out to "wheel" as much as explore anyway, and you can't do that anywhere here. I ended up getting the F150 because I want to get a small truck camper, maybe a pop-up four wheel camper or something. But again, I'm not bothering with that until I move back west and have plenty of room to explorer again. In the mean time I'm trying not to pile up the miles on the F150.

On a side note, I do want to get one (or two?) salvageable sport tracs one day as projects. lol

One that would be SAS'd with coilovers, 35s or 37s, tube bumpers, rock sliders, cage, etc. Not too insane, still streetable and sit fairly low.

But I would also really like to get a clean sport trac with a blown engine/tranny etc. and get a donor Explorer 5.0L AWD. Build up the 5.0L and transmission, swap them in along with the AWD case. Run front and rear limited slip diffs, bigger sway bars, upgraded shocks, and lower it about 2". I wouldn't want to change anything else visually, or run aftermarket wheels, nothing flashy. Just a quick AWD v8 sleeper. Probably swap in leather seats, overhead console, that kind of thing. I think that would be my ideal daily driver.

My dad has a 07 sport trac granted its a totally different truck but its such a nice DD yeah the bed is shorter but he and i have never really needed a bigger bed for anything You might have to haul a load differently. He traded his 2500hd crew cab 6ft bed for it and doesn't regret it at all.
