Did you get the round one without a thermostat or the squareish one with the thermostat. I can't tell by the pics.

 

I got the square one with the bulb-type thermostat. I put the whole fan inside the stock shroud.

My tires set the specs off a little so i'm guessing my 17mpg that I calculate are off and more like 19 or so, didn't look into it yet.

 

Is yours a 4.0?

 

Looks good, one thing I'd do is put something here to prevent the wires from rubbing and shorting out.
Maybe some door edge guard or extent the split loom past this point

Similar to what I did. Is it mounted to the shroud or the radiator? I mounted mine to the shroud, and used some sheets of silicone rubber, 1/8" thick around the edges to fill the gap. So the fan sucks air through the whole radiator, and not just a section.

Keeps it cool on the hottest days, no problem. Mine is pretty loud though (as my colleagues never cease to remind me, lol -- "what is that, an air raid siren?...)

 

mine is fairly loud, a fan sound, not really an air raid siren! haha
It's mounted to the stock shroud which is mounted with the stock wedge and screw on each side to the radiator. The fan size is perfect for the opening of the shroud which will pull all of the air from the whole surface area of the radiator. It's pretty much like the stock setup.

 

You got to the same place I did and it looks like with a lot less trouble, lol. (and noise...)

The stock manual fan is connected to the belt of the engine. When taking off the manual fan it takes some strain off the belt letting the engine work a little easier. There's a definate HP gain and fuel mileage is better. More torque also, a little more giddie up. It helped mostly with city driving for me and not alot on the highway.

Be sure to follow the electrical schematic in the particular fan kit or thermostat kit you buy. General info in How-to's may not necessarily apply to your kit.

Factory fan clutch nuts remove in different directions depending on the fan's rotation. IIRC, the 4.0's come off CCW and the 3.0's unscrew CW (left hand thread). The clutch nut is a fairly large size - most auto parts stores sell specialty wrenches for removing them.

I also have the old G-E electric fan how-to on my hard drive (written by everybody's friend Jason Allen).

 

It's not hard. The hardest part was removing the old fan, I rented a set of wrenches that fits the nut and the other fits around some screw heads on the other side of the mechanism that needs to come off. Well, the wrenches I got were stripped/bent a little too much to fit perfectly so they just rounded out the nut a little. My friend's dad owns a shop and i stopped over there, he used his quality tools and it came right off. The mounting is farily easy, and the electrical is easy.

I looked it up at summit and it was $119. Not bad at all for having the thermostat included.

 

I just got my backordered thermostat so I'm hoping to do mine this week.

 

Mine was about $130 off ebay for a Black Magic fan ($300 on their site). It's not really hard, mine had vague instructions. The hard part? Like everyone said, the old fan. That thing was a biatch!
