My head lights are cloudy as you can see in my photos can anybody tell me how to clean them and make them clear again??????

i tried it all, all the cleaners and waxes,and when i installed my HIDs i wet sanded them, and they were still cloudy, so last weekend i ussed spray can clear coat and got it back to clear, but a lil hazym which for now is wayy better then what it was

 

Did you polish them after you wetsanded them?

I was asking Lifted, did you wetsand yours too? Polishing will clear up all the sanding marks

What's a wet sander? (Wet sanding = squirt bottle with a soapy water solution, soaking very find grit sandpaper in the same solution. Not a machine)


The 1 step posted above helps a good bit, but it doesn't get rid of pitting. I prefer the multi step Meguires that basically is different grades of sand paper then a little sampler of Plastix to finish everything off.

Depends how bad the pitting is. Start with 2000 and see if that corrects it all. Pick up some PlastiX and then buff with that when your done wetsanding.

sorry, i wet sanded it with 2000 then 1500 then buffed it out, kinda cleared it up but not much, so weeks go on and i hate how it makes the truck look, so i used some rustolium clear coat and it did alright, Hids are a lil focused now. but still not happy, i gotta replace the heads and tails soon, so i aint too worried about it, but goodluck

 

Did you use an actual polish or did you just buff it with a towel? Next time try using a actual polish when you buff them and follow it with a wax and I think you'll be happier with the results.

 

kemko color kature, we use it on boats 35% compound 65% canuba wax, still no bueno

 

Ah yeah you need something a little more aggressive than that to remove sanding marks

 

i the method i used worked, no marks, just some of the left over crudd on the lights thats been bakin on there for 8 yrs, mayb i can find a dual sport in the JY and get some stuff off of it

 

Why would you start with 2000 grit then move to the coarser 1500 grit? The higher the number the finer the grit.

 

i have a 95 escort and my lenses were really yellow.I Googled headlight lens and found a company AM-Parts.Got a pair of headlights with bulbs and all for $60.00.I think that Maguires stuff is like $25.00 so for another $30.00 yoy get brand new lights!

 

I used the 3M headlight restore kit that comes with a drill attachment, and it is so much nicer than the "by-hand" method used by other companies. The only faults are that you have to tape up around the headlight edges so as not to sand the painted panels. But the end result is so much nicer the the Meguiars or the turtle wax products. Id put up b4 and after pics but i didnt think about it at the time.so all i have is after pics.

 

I used some stuff at work and it worked great on my 93 head lights. I hate those little **** that stick out from it it makes it harder to rub across the lenses they are pointless if you ask me.... I wish you could sand them off

For my moms Taurus we used buffing compound and a buffer and it worked great

 

If all else fails.........get new headlights.

They say in the write-up or product description that bulbs are not included but they are. I bought from the same company a few years back and got new units for a 1998 Chevy Lumina. BTW..very fast shipping also. By the time you buy products for a DYI project, plus your time involved, I think all new (for $64) is the way to go.
