So I waxed my 09 FX4 ranger for the first time a few weeks ago and I ended up getting some of the carranuba wax of my plastic front and rear fenders. I used some Armour all multisurface cleaner to try and take it off. It looked like I had removed the wax but I was wrong. About a week later after a good downpour I noticed the wax marks on my fenders had reappeared.

Anyone have any suggestions on removing the wax, its on my bumper as well.. what can I say my first wax job was messy. ALso any good products for cleaning and protecting your fenders and bumpers.

I used mothers back-to-black on my flares and it worked great. I had to use it like 4 different times but it finally came out great.

 

What Kind of wax did you use?

 

oh nice, what did you apply it with just a scrub brush? I tried using a tooth brush the first time lol..

 

Mothers Carrauaba wax.

 

You need to use a pink pencil eraser, one of the ones that is about 3" x 1" and rub the area where there is wax, then wash it with water and a toothbrush

 

Yep, best way to get it off in my opinion.

 

Or use prep-all stuff just dont get it on the waxed area

 

I just use #40 rubber and vinyl and rubber cleaner, I slung some #26 carnauba wax on the black plastic where the window rolls down, took it right off

#40 works but if it is wheeling compound itll show right through

 

I always hear people say peanut butter works good for that

 

I've had good luck with dish soap in hot water, scrubbed with a toothbrush. When that doesn't work, I spray a little Simple Green on the toothbrush and give the area a scrub. I've also heard of using peanut butter, but have never tried it.

To keep it from happening again use a plastic & rubber dressing before you wax.

 

I have used all kinds of stuff to remove car wax, but it seems the best is just regular old paste wax remover for floors.
Be very patient and don't get it on anything you don't want the wax or clear coat removed from.
For what we are discussing here I would try regular old dish soap followed by a vinyl cleaner and a vinyl conditioner after that.
I know people like the shine you get from carnuba wax, but the stuff you get in liquid now (rather than 20 years ago) is less work for the same end result, and I would rather be doing something else than waxing no matter how easy it is.

 

I did the same thing the first time I waxed my ranger. From then on I used blue painters tape and taped off the flares, mirriors and the bed liner every time I waxed it. It took a while to tape it all off but it was worth it because I didnt haver to worry about what I got wax on and spend the time cleaning it all off.

Done that too. It's the best option. Keep in mind that masking tape won't stick to a freshly dressed surface. It's like trying to stick tape to butter, so it's an either/or kinda thing.

 

Thanks for the suggestion Toreador4x4 and 04blackedge, a regular pink eraser did the BEST job at removing wax on my plastic fenders. Took no effort and a couple rubs back and forth to remove it all.

 

if their is any truth to the peanut butter theory who in their right mind would be thinking then "I GOT IT!!! peanutbutter dude" lol wtf. I am going to have to try that pink eraser in some of my window trim. Im glad you started this thread

 

I use full strength car soap and my finger tips. I grease up the area with a helping of Zip wax by Turtle wax and rub it with my index finger in a circular patterns over the area.
To keep the black shiny I use a wet tire gloss and a old socks turned inside out to apply it.
