um weight? fuel injection? the list goes on, the 302 is an easier fit in te 98+ models for sure and it allows the use of all the electronics from stock.

obviously you need to take a look at to whats involved with putting a 302 in a 98+ ranger. (which btw is what 90% of the member base has)

its not a plug and play thing.

personally ill pass on both. 5.4L baby :)

I have a 351 sitting at home in my dad's 92 F150. It would need rebuilt, but I am considering it for my 98.

The truck has 230k on it. The engine still runs, but the transmission is toast and the engine acts tired..

EDIT: Caleb, build a 2.3T. They are not AS common as a 5.0, and will certainly eat a 5.0 for lunch when built correctly. Not to mention they can be built cheap as well. Oh, and still get 25MPG.

I think he meant 90% of R-F have 98+ rangers. I would say 10% of us have 5.0s in our rangers.

Thats pretty funny, although a 5.0 is a helluva upgrade for any ranger! Im currently pulling a 351 out of my 67 mustang and replacing it with a FI 5.0. Cant wait to make 400hp and get 20+mpg

5.0's are a hell of a good motor but... there so commen now its like the explorer ohc or the light mods or t bar cranking i mean the way i look at it if your gonna spend 1700- 3 grand putting in a 5.0 ( price is more of a max rebuild power adders ect ect) and why not spend the same putting in a big block where most of the time you wont even tap that power until you need it

like i said the 460 is a little slow in stock fourm but if you get a cam out of a 429 and advance it 9 and a good set of headers some wrench time that power is ready to roll... and roll it will....... o.o

a 460 is way to big for a ranger platform. 5.0 is the perfect engine for these trucks and can be built for more then enough power.

"like really it is"

thats why i built up my old Lima in my first truck (87)....it was different

though in carbed form with a cam, port and polish.....it made about the same power as my fuel injected 2.3l

How about a 4.6??? (281)
i've seen mustangs get wicked power out of those with superchargers and tuners or just plain bolt on parts.
