Anyone hear know welders?
I really want to get better at welding. Have only welded a few times in my life. I did some welding with my brother in laws welder. But it has taken a **** on him. Its a lincon flux core, but can also be hooked to gas. I think he did somthing to it by using it to constantly. It just doesnt feed wire any more, it started working again for a bit, then stopped. I checked the connections but they were tight. Anything else i could try, so i can start practicing without dropping a arm and a leg on a welder.

Take a picture of the welder so we can know which model you have....or just tell us the model.
Check the tensioner that should almost "snap" down on top of the wire when you feed it into the wire feed motor. You should be able to adjust the tension by turning the little ****.
If the shaft that holds the wire spool has an adjustable "brake" (might be a little wingnut or something) that could be too tight.

Does the Wire bunch up inside of the machine ?
Can you pull it through without any trouble ?
Replace the Wire Feed Liner, it is inside of the main connecting cable for the Welding Gun.
Not sure if your is replaceable but take a look, the liners wear out and not saying that is it !

from the operators manual...
- No wire feed, weld output or gas flow when gun trigger is pulled. Fan does NOT operate.
1. Make sure correct voltage is applied to the
machine.
2. Make certain that power switch is in the ON
position.
3. Make sure circuit breaker inside wire drive compartment is reset.
- No wire feed, weld output or gas flow when gun trigger is pulled Fan operates normally.
1. The thermostat may be tripped due to overheating. Let machine cool. Weld at lower duty cycle.
2. Check for obstructions in air flow. Check Gun
Trigger connections. See Installation section.
3. Gun trigger may be faulty.
- No wire feed when gun trigger is pulled. Fan runs,
gas flows and machine has correct open circuit voltage (32 VDC maximum) – weld output.
1. If the wire drive motor is running make sure that
the correct drive rolls are installed in the
machine.
2. Check for clogged cable liner or contact tip.
3. Check for proper size cable liner and contact
tip.
This is from a weld pak manual yours may differ but should be similar.. you can find your manual on lincolnelectric.com if you don't have the original.
