I always thought I'd have to ditch my flareside to get a cool bumper. Maybe not.

I can't wait for the install, I'm really wanting a custom bumper.

I'd want the hitch integrated though, it sounds like they can do anything you want

 

Exactly what I was thinking. That's why I haven't pulled the trigger on any kind of front bumper yet - I needed a rear to sort of 'match'.

I just wish I could find a front plate bumper that didn't stick out as far as most seem too!

Me too on the tight fit but I have not seen any yet !

As soon as I get the space to work I will mount the rear and then my task for the front is to mount it up as close as possible, maybe even cut a little off.

I will take picture and forward them to Mike at C4x4, maybe he can do something.

Snow today and tomorrow, then clean up, hoping for late Saturday to get started on the rear.

If enough Ranger owners call C4x4 maybe they will address the overhang thing but we will not know until we call; get go,ing !

 

Looking awesome. On mine, I am planning on painting to match and having black line-x on the top, step, and probably the bottom. So it will protect the areas that need it. I'm not worried about paint chipping or whatever. LineX should be awesome though. Can't wait to see it on, as mine hasn't made progress in a while.

Out of curiosity, looks like you were able to provide a lot of input on what you wanted them to do, did my design inspire you??

 

Some of your ideas helped, I wanted it full width and a wrap around from the start, your lic plate setup helped, I sent that along.
Are you color matching the truck, I was thinking that too but not sure on it ?
Since I can't get a perfect e-4 red match with Line-X, I will probably go with a flat UV Black, will need to see what they can do.

 

Yes, I am color matching, not the line x, but the painted portion. The line X will be the black UV or Xtra or whatever it is that keeps its shine.
I always wondered about how well linex could be matched, something I would be concerned about for sure. Black looks good though.

Maybe try painting the light housings E4, since it is behind the bumper it would be very subtle. who knows, could look good.

 

OK finally got some time and a little warmer weather so I got out and mounted the bumper, loosely but still got an idea where I need to mod the bumper a little.
Remember this is a prototype bumper as soon as I contact C4x4 Mike may incorporate my changes in his patterns.

So here you have the first fitting of the New Ranger Steppie Rear Bumper made by Custom 4x4 Fabrication of OK City, OK.
I need to trim some steel to allow for some movement of the bumper but thinking of mounting it a little higher so I may to trim more than I am thinking at the moment.
Everything is made of thick steel plating, the frame mounts are ¼” plate really HD and no stress marks where it has been bent.
A bolt kit comes along with the bumper, four grade 8 bolts for mounting to the frame and 8 grade 5 bolts to mount the bumper to the brackets.
C4x4 cut custom holes for my KC Backup Lights and mounted the shackle mounts to align with the frame mounting, extra strong positioning.
Take a look at the pictures and ask questions, if I can’t answer them you will need to contact Mike at Custom 4x4 Fabrication.
This guy is good, does quality work and produces a quality product, can not be beat, IMHO.

Left Side, I am not sure and didn’t check yet to see if the Frame Brackets are upside down.
If the bracket were reversed it might bring the bumper up some to fill the gap.

Not bad at all, nice and beefy. I do agree though that it should be up a little higher.

 

If the weather hold out the mods might get done tomorrow but more snow is predicted so it may be a little while.

 

Snowing, won’t get the bumper cut today but it is the next thing I need to do.
Bumper is off of the truck and won’t be back on until after cutting so there won’t be any more pictures until then.

 

im not sure if i like it or hate it. the bumper itself looks pretty kick *** but it almost looks too bulky for the truck. i cant decide until i see it painted

 

Bulky is what I was going for but I think when the bumper is raised another 1" to 1 1/2" it will fit the rear better.

I just need to trim things up a little...

I also have the front bumper from C4x4 and it too add bulk to the front of the truck, matches.

 

After looking at those pictures again I'd say you do need to flip those brackets side to side and upside down like you mentioned and it'll bring the bumper up where it needs to be. I think if you can get it moved up to about 1/2" from the bottom of the tailgate it'll look even better.

 

I talked to C4x4 asking the same question, which way is correct ?

Waiting for an answer, we will see.

I also will compare the bracket in the shop...

 

Nothing from C4x4 yet on the brackets mounting but I think they are mounted in the pic the way they should be. I sent Mike the pictures and he is working with me on the bumper shape and fitment but the bracket are still up in the air. He wants to make new ones but before that can happen I need to cut the inside edges of the wrap around area.

Had a lot of snow but will have a few good day and may get out and get some cutting going, Plasma Cutter doesn’t like wet.

Nothing new, between the weather and being sick not much progress.

Also, my daughter is getting married the first week of April and in SoCal, so far away from here and that will take up approximately three weeks of prep, travel and return so it won't be until mid April until I get started again.
It is the first project when I return, I owe Mike at C4x4 more info on fit and pictures of the mods I Ido, then the completed project on the truck.

I got some time today and got the bumper trimmed up.

Now I just need to get it on for a second fitting, change the mounting brackets, document the effort and send C 4x4 a message about the mods and then off to the Line-X shop.
