cutting steel, need help

I have a couple large pieces of hot dipped galvanized I-beam steel that may need to be cut up by me if i can't get a scrap recycler in to remove it from my property, what type of cutting torch would i use/rent? im not sure if i could even rent it just want to know ahead, never welded or used that type of gas acetelynestuff before and don't want to hurt myself Thanks.

rent a chop saw (perferably gas powered) with a carborundum blade and cut it up
faster, easier, safer than using a cutting torch if you have little or no experiance
good luck Rob

If it is 4 inch or less , you could use a portable band saw to cut it up. That would be safer than a chop/quicky saw. Inexperienced users tend to bind and shatter the blades on those when they are cutting big stuff, and it can seriously hurt you.

Portable band saw would cut that up in a jiffy.

A sawzall will cut that, might take a few blades, but they're cheap. That's what I'd try anyway. A new blade will cut right through 1/4" and below.

I'd go with a Porta Band but if you do want fire no you cannot lay them on there sides and you have to have chains to hold them up (its the law here anyway) but i would do the porta band cause its alot easier to work with and you don't have to worry about hot metal dropping on your foot when your cutting

Well i looked at it today and it dosn't look to be as big of a job as i thought or by even looking at the pics.
Whatever was bolted was undone by the company, the box steel and 'I' beam piece's need to be cut in half at least for handle ability to put in the back of the Ranger and haul to scrap yard, i need to make 5 or 6 cuts at the most, i have a sawzall so i'll try that first and see how it works.
thanks for the ideas everyone

My 19.2 cordless sawzall eats up 1/4" steel pretty good. It kind of surprised me.

Put some light weight oil on the sawsall blades and in the cut once in a while and they won't burn out as quick, they will stay sharp longer and actually cut faster. It's cheaper than buying more blades too.

Buring galvinized steel gives off toxic fumes. I saw use a gas chop saw. It really isn't that hard to not break blades. I run one at work to cut all kinds of metal.
