Legality of a Flatbed?

Hey guys im contemplating tossing out my bed and building a flatbed, what im wondering is it able to make a flatbed and have it still road legal? I understand having turn signals, brakes/running lights and liscense plate. But what else would I have to do to make it legal and able to pass a Pennsylvania inspection.

It seems that you have the right idea. Just make sure all of the correct lights are in place.

Check your state law to see if there is anything about it. Or call someone up.

In the past week, I have actually seen 2 custom flat-bed trucks rolling around town. Pretty neat idea.

did it already on our 88 ranger, Just make sure you have brake/tails/turns and reverse lights. license plate lights should be on the bumper so they are fine. Also securely mount the filler neck as well as probably mud flaps. But other than that its whatever you wanna do

Some things you may or may not need would be a bumper of some sort. They might say the edge of the bed is not enough of a bumper. Also flares of some sort. Or make sure the bed covers the tires. They might hassle you about that. And as stated before with the filler neck, lights, and mud flaps.

As far as bumpers mentioned above, the fabricated "steps" below flatbed deck height at the rear are often acceptable bumpers. However, most states/jurisdictions have a range of heights which your bumper must meet. Can't be too high or too low basically, just check it out for your area.
