Well since I purchased my welder I have completed a couple projects and figured I would share the results with everybody . Granted these are for use in the jeep but I figured it might give some inspiration to try some new ideas.

The first was a secured storage trunk for the rear storage area in the jeep , for when I have the top and doors off .
The main frame for the trunk is built from 1x1x1/8" angle iron . It is built inside the wheel well and extends over them to make a flat surface across the cargo area . The panels are made from 3/4 " plywood on the inside there is a sub-frame welded in to sandwich the plywood in place for security . On the drivers side is a cut out for my bazooka base tube to vent out and corner load against the wheel well .
As you can see in the second pick the access door folds down and is secured to the main frame via hockey puck style lock for security . IT is secure to the jeep using the existing mounting hardware for the back seat brackets so in each corner is 2 T55 hex head bolts so its not coming out without drawing my attention .




The second project is a over head shotgun mount/lock to keep it handy and secure if the situation arises .
It likewise is made up from 1x1 angle iron but it is boxed for strength . The Firearm is secured at the stock via a pocket that wraps around the stock and at the end with a pocket that wraps the barrel , ahead of the receiver is a flip up section that lock and secures to the frame via another hockey puck lock and is mounted to the roll bar via 4 u-bolts .

 

ok so... i got a question for you. wha the hell would you need a shot gun rack right up front like that for. Dont get me wrong man that looks cool and it is a well thought out peice of harware but what do you need it for.

lolol looks like me i got a gun rack similar to that mounted to the front of my speaker box and it holds 2 shotguns or rifles and has locking points so no one can steal them too easily

IIRC it's legal in GA too, I see roof mounted gun racks all the time around here, most people just set them in the passenger seat tho'.

I asked and was told as long as it's not loaded and was in plain sight they had no problem with it.

MY answer . I carry everywhere I go period , For my safety and they safety of those in my care and/or presence . All to many times I have seen Bad things happen to good people becaue " it never Happens Here " mentality .
Most cases a LEO will not make it in time to help you so I carry the burden of my defense and those around me on MY shoulders to MY DEATH if necisary to protect someone I love . I happen to keep my shotgun and AR-15 on me for the above reason you never know when you will need one . Few examples

Im driving through my nieghborhood and a Dog is atacking a child , unfortuneatly the animal had to be put down Due to severe Agressiveness when we got the child free.
I live in the middle of nowhere it wouldnt suprise me at all to come home to someone breaking into my house or shop .
I wheel alone ALOT , I have gotten stuck and stayed in my Jeep All night , My gun provided Food and Peice of mind . I cant begin to tell you some of the things I have seen and heard of people finding while wheeling .



Yes , It is hidden you cant see it unless you standing next to the Jeep and even then really looking for it , it sits right next to the top and is very well obscured from veiw by the Rollbars .

 

Country, they either understand it or they dont. I dont think its something that can be explained.

 

That is awsome I wish I could do the same. Get the mount like we have in our squads here at work and put it in my truck on the back wall. It looks good.

Big eye opener for me. All the "is that legal" and why would you need that" comments that come up on this thread and others like it.

Never really realized that many folks thought that way. Around here, the majority of folks would only ask on why mount it on the roof instead of this location or that location instead LOL

The rack does look good, Been contemplating one of the Big-Sky racks for quite some time now. As the back seats make an excalent gun rack, but they only hold one gun.

 

Country how are the extra shells secured. Is one mounted to the reciever and the other just a butt-cuff? Or is the one near the reciever a permanant mount?

 

Cool gun rack! Open carry is legal here in Arizona. That means I can walk around town with my .357 revolver 6" barrel on my waist NOT needing any type of permit as long as it's not concealed. Same with a vehicle I can have a shotgun sitting across the back seat or front and as long as it's not being concealed or hidden I'm perfectly legal.

 

Holy crap he is back , he is the reason I carry it .

The one on the stock is a Butt cuff like 5 bucks at Academy , The one on the reciever is a SideSaddle Brand it is made out of Polymer , It mounts to the reciever but isnt permanent depending on the gun it will replace reciever Push pins with Hex Bolts , I piad 20-25 bucks for it . The only thing I will warn its straight foward install unless you have a FIELD pump the style when all the way rear it hangs over the receiver , if you have a pump like that you either have to remove material (I used dremal with disk sander) or put a shorter Tactical forearm on it .


You know , Im with you some get it some dont . Some can be swayed and others wont they dont even want those whom are capable owning them because "GUNS KILL PEOPLE" guess what so does everything else .

I will be the first to say , some people for what ever reason shouldnt own guns period . Weather its because there iresponsible , unsafe , threat or just dont like them . But I wouldnt take away those form responsible citizens because of the few bad apples . Nor because I dont like something would I ban everybody from owning it . Good Example I dont drink nor do I like Alcohol but never would I go take it form everybody , thats your right to drink and its not buisseness to stop you from doing so . Same with guns the good instances of them being used to stop crime or defend something FAR OUTWEIGHS the bad uses .

BTW off-topic kinda , How is the Finish holding up on the Shotgun you Camo Painted , is it scratching off easy on the Metal ? When I painted 3 of my rifles I just did the stocks but I kinda want to do the whole thing if it would hold up .

I know the other day when I was putting on my tire chains and some dudes mastif/mix mutts were out. I was glad that 870 of mine was in the truck. One more lunge on thier part and it woulda been go time. I refuse to get bit, and they were getting closer and more agrressive each time. You do get wierd looks from people when your putting on tire chains with a shotgun leaned against the truck LOL

That shotgun is holding up wonderfully. It has been thrown in my bed box where it stayed for a while, I rode around in the bed of the truck for a few miles. Had a 8year old cousin borrow it for bird hunting and he took a pretty good tumble.

Seems like there is a few chips on the side of the reciever or maybe the wrist of the stock, I'm not remembering the exact spot. But other than that it looks the same as the day I painted it. And in general it is holding up better than the original finish

When I prepped the gun, I took some wet/dry sand paper and scuffed down the entire thing. Then I hung the parts by wires, and scrubbed them down with mineral spirits to remove any oils an such. I made sure not to get my hands on it as well. Then just make sure you let it dry completely before you go to the next step. It seemed to help alot. I painted the stock on that one a while back and it didnt hold up at all. But I didnt do any of that stuff, just painted it.

One thing I did notice was that it lives in the ranger and ussually had a light coating of rust on it. That isnt the case anymore.

 

you got pics of the ones you painted? I'm getting the winter boredom bug and am thinking about re-painting the gun in a different color.

 

I stick to if guns kill people mine must be defective because they haven't killed anyone.
