Our projects in my Fab class

We spent the last 8 weeks on these karts we built. The only thing we're given is the back half off of a gas powered scooter and we have to build these things to be able to take the motors off when we're done. So motor mounts, frame, steering, handle bars are things we had to build. Then of course I had to build exhaust for it. Straight piped it with a few bends and a mitre cut tip!

What do you guys think? Part of our final for this class was racing them this week. Well the school wouldn't let us race, so we had to do "time trials" lol. Out of 12 scooters, I took 4th I think. It was really fun to build it though. Learned a lot and I think I'm gonna buy the motor and frame from my teacher. It's just that much better knowing I built that!

The guy with the red helmet is one of my good buddies in the class. He probably had the longest and loudest kart. lol

The short guy on the kart with the white seat and raiders helmet was the fastest one out there. They made some last minute adjustments to their motor and it was running pretty sweet!

The guy on the black scooter with bike tires is another good buddy of mine in the class. He was the first to build exhaust so I made mine right after his! His turning is done by shifting your weight in the seat and was the second fastet. The bike tires seem to be a big winner, less drag on the pavement!

And the one with the ape hanger handle bars is me! It def got the most looks, and was the only one that didn't need to be tampered with to run right. The girl in my group that was riding it the other day even wrecked it and jumped it over the curb and it didn't even hurt it one bit! So we built it strong!

I knew you guys would like the flex shots! What'chu know about solid axle now?! haha

They go about 20-25 or so. Nothing extreme, but keep in mind my *** is literally 3in off the ground, so it makes it feel like 40 haha

I just posted the one of me my buddy took today, it's only like 15 seconds long though.

It's way fun! I loved the class. It's My second class in a series of 3 classes for my associates of science in welding technology. Fab and repair is the class name. That was fabII, where building the kart is the class. FabIII is I get to build my own things. So SAS parts here I come! Oh and a trailer or two :-)

It's so worth it man. Seriously. The most fun I've had in awhile. It's just cool mobbin on something you built from the ground up (kinda lol)

We built every part on the karts. The only thing we're given is the bolts for the steering and motor mounts, the actual motor (49cc with disc brake on the rear) and the front tires. The frame, seat, steering, steering wheel, knuckles for the front end and exhaust was all done by the students off imagination. He gave us hand outs to go off of, so we weren't in the dark, but most people drew it up in their head then put it on paper. We actually had to design it on paper and have it ok'd then we were able to play it by ear on the build basically. Made for a really fun term.

We only had 2hrs a day, 4 days a week to do this. Keep in mind 11 other groups are also in the shop for the same thing so machines were limited. Part of the reason it took 8 weeks.

Looks like you had a blast. Both building it and riding it.
