Some of my sculpture

Well its not related to my truck but I figured some might be interested.
I am a studio art major at FSU and I concentrate in sculpture. I mainly work in steel. I basically taught myself how to weld, I'm not that good but nothing I do is structural. I also work a lot with casting iron and aluminum (more aluminum since it is readily available.)

cast iron knuckles

Scap Wave

All I Have

SMOKE
This was one of the longest and toughest projects that I have ever taken on. Each pipe is 1.5" schedule 40 which is a little over 1/8" thick. All of the bending was done by cutting every 2", heating/bending, then welding and grinding the welds smooth. Each pipe took over 10 hours alone. Each 1/2" bar was tacked in place before final welding. A heat patina was then applied using an acetylene torch and it was then finished with 3 coats of penetrol. The piece will be displayed in front of the art building at FSU (FAB Building) on a concrete pad starting in summer 08 through October 09 as part of a contest. This was a long learning process and I am proud to see it finally finished after 4 months.

The hand with the heart is actually all cast aluminum. I built the entire thing out of wax first then took a ceramic shell mold of it and burned the wax out. It is hollow as well.

So, curious, but how heavy is that? it looks roughly the proper size of a hand almost, Im guessing 3 or 4 lbs of aluminum?

I'm not really sure since there is still some ceramic shell from the mold stuck inside of it that I was unable to get out. I would say its 3lbs at the most.

That is cast aluminum finished with shoe polish. It would be difficult to duplicate it since i first built that out of wax then made a ceramic shell mold and burned the wax out.

To duplicate that, I would have to take an intricate plaster mold and then pour wax into it to get a positive.

If ever you make another one, let me know I'd love to have one.

Lol yea we are running out of places to put things in my house. It was really a failure anyway, the bottom broke out when it was full of water.
