New best - 60shot Nitrous

Went out to a better track this time. (Milan) Was also pushing 10hp more nitrous and sporting a fresh tune with all my latest refinements. Got the fuel dialed in to a 12.5 pulling up through 3rd and 4th.

The off nitrous times and speeds are no different. But check out my ET on nitrous!!! That run and the run before it felt very strong. The run before was a 14.79 and I hot lapped the last run. I was shocked to see a 14.54 @ 93mph! The motor heat actually reduced power enough that I was able to launch hard w/o spinning or slipping the tires. It just stuck and I cut an awsome 2.1 60ft.

Naw no vids this time. The octane comes from a mix of 100 and 94. Shooting nitrous and/or boosting a motor IMO calls for it. In my book its cheap insurance against detonation.

LOL.. those days are long gone! This kit I've put together is are some production pieces and some prototype pieces. And it's all computer controlled.

The quickest off nitrous I've gone was a 15.5 It was about the same situation. The motor had some heat in it and was a little down in power. I was able to just stab the throttle off the line and it hooked.

For next year I think I'm going to try and de-tune the initial WOT so as to help traction and make those kinds of passes all the time.

Not to shabby for a daily driver 4x4 IMO!

Why would you detune it for traction? I'd recommend quick clicking on the computer and get some real tires! Detuning is for wussys! lol

Traction = lower ETs. Too much power off the line = tire spin.

As far as real tires.. I've got some. But they are on my Lightning.

It felt really good to have another daily driver back in the 14s. It's been a while. IMO a in cab vid just can't do the feeling of hard acceleration justice. You don't get the sense of a hard launch, the firm shifts, or the abnormal quicker revving of the motor.

btw, I'm going on vacation next week so I pulled the bottle out and filled it with regular 87 gas. I'm working on a 87 octane tune for the trip and winter driving. In Oct I gotta go to Tenn for work anyway, so I think I'm done racing & spraying for the year.

Here is a little web page with some tunage to keep the flame alive.

Oh yeah.. I'm plenty satisfied where it's at. Except for that one nearly perfect hook, I ran consistant 14.8s at 92.5 And at that I've still got plenty of fuel left too. I'm happy as is. Besides it's been three years now since the Lighting has run. This winter I'm going to focus on getting it back in operation and into the mid 11s on street tires. (10s on slicks)

Here is a web page for the nitrous install. IMO it's a bit stealth.

Nice run rich!

Didn't you use to have dual exhaust out the back?

Yeah I was supprised it ran that good on a 60 shot. I thought it would have taken a 75 shot to get into the mid 14s.

I think over the winter I'll fine tune the "tune" so I can have the same lowend traction characteristics. Basicly I just need to de-tune at first WOT. Pull some timing is all it'll take I think. Oh and I'm pushing a little too much fuel and the 2-3 3-4 shifts need to be a little firmer. Those are the three things I had to adjust at the track with the x-cal. I'm just an engineer at heart so I'd like the "tune" to be perfect in its *nominal* form.

Exhaust was clanging against the tow bar. Besides I've always wanted it out the sides behind the tire. So.. I fixed it like I wanted to begin with. It's got the nice tone of a magnaflow but exits on the sides.

Naw.. this is my daily driver. The Lightning is my "toy". It's pushing 800 at the crank and 225-250 of that will be DP nitrous on top of 15psi of boost.
Thats where all my real work is going.

Here in OCT I'm going to get a set of 32s and maybe just maybe I'll let some of the local guys talk me into going to the sand dunes.

Oh I'm sure we can give you enough encouragement to try out the off road scene! Would be fun to see you plow up Test Hill on a 60 shot!

I doubt I'll go this year. Just too much going on right now.
I'll just have to settle on being a "poser" for now.

HI!... wydopnthrtl : You running a dry or wet shot? Not bad, so the 60H.P shot knocked off a good second. My 07 RANGER, EC, 4.0L, AUTO has run a best of 14.67E.T in N/A trim with just a electric fan, cai, and ASP crank pulley. I'm thinking of installing a NX 50H.P dry shot on it.

P.S : Is this the same wydopnthrtl from F-150ONLINE? If so, I'm "NEAL" over there or more well know as NEAL THE H.P FREAK". I run at MILAN DRAGWAY too. But mostly at ST. THOMAS DRAGWAY here in Ontario.
