Bought a 7.3

So I wanted to get another project truck and opted for a 97 CCLB 7.3. I was looking for 3 things, color either black or white, rust free, manual trans. Unfortunately I settled for an automatic but the wife was a little happier that way anyway.

179k miles
From Texas. I only have a few pics. Maybe I will take more here soon.

When I bought it

How it sits now

Looking to find a new tailgate and add 35s or 37s on 18s or 20s and 3-4 inches of lift, injectors, intercooler, few other odds and ends. I may also repaint it to solid black.

I know its a killer. A F150 just doesnt compare. lol

If I had the funds I would have just bought another 6.4 but this 7.3 is quite fun to drive.

Nice truck, my dad regrets selling his 97, but he loves his 99.

Curious about your plans for it too

NICE!

I was wondering when you were going to have something new especially after seeing you post in a thread the other day. It was like the calm before the storm, I knew you was coming with something lol.

I just saw a thread on --- about the same gen truck, they are going around like crazy.

I actually picked up a 90 F250 single cab, long bed, 4x4, diesel, manual transmission with 40,000 original miles on it. I just haven't decided to post a thread about it yet.

Looks like a nice clean truck, something hard to find in 7.3's, let a lone OBS'. Any plans for it just yet?

I can't remember if you still had your 6.4 when this site popped up, but either way: PowerStrokeArmy - Powered by vBulletin

Seems most of the most-knowledgeable PSN members migrated over there with great info.

Keep us updated when you can!

thanks! yea i love these older trucks its a ton of fun to drive. as for plans...

It runs a little rough and has some steering issues, once i get that resolved then its the following...

superduty spring swap
3-4 inches of lift
35s or 37 nitto mud grapplers
20x12s or 20x10s
injectors
6 pos chip
gauges
satin black paint job
who knows after that.

8500 after taxes and plates. at the time i thought it was a really good buy for the condition but i think i may have been able to do better if i was more patient. i had been looking for 5-6 months and have test drove only a few. This ran really good and was black, which was something i really wanted so i went with this one. my wife liked it too so it was hard to say no.

just like anything used, it looks great at first but once you get it home you are like crap i didnt see that! but its rust free and low miles. Body is in good shape too.

Looks good condition. Skip stage 1 (160cc) injectors, you'll want more power in no time. At least with hybrids you can slowly upgrade without having to keep buying new injectors.

As you know, they're electronically controlled. Lets say you replace the factory injectors with larger ones, but don't want to upgrade the trans/TC, HPOP or other items at this time. You will need custom tunes on your chip due to the larger injectors, but due to the lack of upgraded trans/supporting mods, you can have the chip maker give you custom tunes based on your needs. So you buy injectors that will meet your final HP and tune the fuel down to match the rest of the truck as you build it. You'll need to send your chip in for reburning as mods come, but can still use the truck without the chip.

I have 160cc (stage 1) injectors, Superduty HPOP (17* vs stock 15*, able to support injectors better). My chip is tuned to take advantage of the injectors, but slightly tuned on the bottom end to avoid smoke.

Right so is that any stage 1 160cc injectors? I would think so.

I have 3 of the hub caps. I took them off since I was missing 1

Generally...Most 160cc's are considered stage 1s.

+1 for skipping 160's.

I wish I had just spent the extra loot and got 238/80's, or 250/100's and PHP tuning again, instead of what I have now (BDP).

Nice 7.3 Zach. So I am guessing your keeping the ranger now? Or is it still on the chopping block?
