Whats this? A powerstroke?

lol, now thats hitting below the belt! haha
Thats the problem with the Powerstroke line after the 7.3, there is so much that changed so fast that everyone assumed its all crap. In reality, the 05-06 6.0L Powerstroke actually has a better rap sheet than any year 7.3L. But the motor was rushed into production to battle the 6.6 D-max, so it had a slew of recalls which were viewed of course to be a weakness of the motor... its that whole first impression thing, especially important when considering how well ford had it with the 7.3 *sigh...emissions* And sadly the 6.4 had it just as bad with its first impression. Both the 6.0 and the 6.4 are good motors, its just that they were rushed into production.
......AND thats the whole problem with the Powerstroke Ford/Navistar thing was that Ford knew how to build a truck, and Navistar knew how to build an engine. the issue was how they were dealing with each other. The products were not bad, but they were rushed and this makes for a bad impression, and bad impressions are hard to ignore.
However.....Ford and Navistar will be better now that they are apart, and that was something very obvious to me when i got to drive a new 6.7 powerstroke last week, it was the diesel that ford needed, and they had to do it on their own to get it. If you havent taken one for a drive around the block yet, and are thinking of going 6.7 cummins, or 6.6 D-max, i suggest you go drive that new powerstroke
all i gots to say about that is that new 6.7 makes the superduty dimensions seem ranger swift and i really like that about a large truck....hehehehe

lol, this was a wise move on your part...I have been trying to figure a way to afford one ever since i drove it, but its hard to justify spending over 40k on a truck when my ranger can still do everything i need in a truck and my college bills are starting to flow in...driving the 6.7 was probably a mistake on my part, i truly am developing wine taste on a beer budget..

Hate to say it, it's junk. It's backwards of the Dodge. The truck around the engine is good, the engine is junk.
Sorry Zach, I did. That's why i'm looking at Ram 3500's now. How many times has the front cover come off that truck so far? If you'd like I can post the 5 pages of service history on the 08 F450 with the 6.4 I was looking at that had 35,000 miles on it. I'm sure it'll be fine for you, but if you were using the truck to make money, you'd be screwed. I've already talked to one guy who had to give up his business doing auto transport because his truck was already in the shop. There's a guy on the Cummins forum who has 270,000 miles on an 08 Ram 3500 with the 6.7. Like I said above, the truck around the engine is good.

Just a quick read
Highest miles on a 6.4? Interim from Navistar, nope, this one is a strong motor!! - Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum
I have also heard more problems with the Dodges then the Fords but I wouldn't be afraid to buy either.
Hell if someone told me they would trade me a 6.0 for my 7.3 I would probably do it.

I know of at least 3 2005-2006 6.0's that all have issues with the cooling systems. The trucks all receive dealer maint., one never pulls anything and has very little power always having issues with egr cooler and egr valve, the other 2 pull good sized loads, one a 25' horse trailer with living quarters and the other hauls equipment. The two that are always hauling have way more power, but they suffer coolant losses from either headgaskets or egr cooler. Either way I wouldn't say the 6.0's were exactly great, they have good power and when they're not all carboned up they run good. Ever seen the insides of a 6.0 intake...not good. Work them hard.

I did my research on FTE. I didn't bother with Powerstroke.org. And that thread only has 3 pages and not even half of the replies are guys posting what their mileage is. My point is, the trucks are so hit and miss with which ones have problems and the ones that don't. They are nice trucks inside and out and the engine runs strong. I just don't think I could trust it to run a business.
Its the early trucks, not a hit or miss....Sorry you feel that way have fun with the doodge
