If they are 8" wheels, it means they have 3.5" (more or less) backspacing.

-11 means -11 mm and that's just under 1/2". -11 means (if I remember right) 11mm towards the inside (towards the truck) which means that the mounting plates is that much closer to the inside rim -- pushing the wheels further OUT. (If I have that wrong, offset wise folks, correct it, lol)

Offset is a pain because what you USUALLY need is the backspacing which is the distance from the inside of the rim to the mounting plate. That's the measurement that is usually critical REGARDLESS of rim width.

puts the tires at about a fender flare. stock is 4.5 and thats way to sucked in the wheel well IMO

Factory Ranger offset is +12mm so it is about 1/2" the other way from centered. Assuming that you have the same rim width, an offset change from +12mm to -11mm will push the wheel faces outward by 23mm - almost 1".

For any given offset, a change in width affects the backspacing as well.

Actually, John, I believe that a wheel with a nominal 8" width and -11mm offset has about 4" of backspacing.

It is a 8" wide rim. I know the popular backspacing on aftermarket rims is usually 3.25-3.75 for our rangers. would there be any drawbacks going with a 4" backspacing?
