now on the toy landcruiser ARB snorkels, here are the choices
heres the site
http://www.4wheelsupply.com/arb/safa...ls-toyota.htm#
now, and anyone has a landcruiser near by, it would be nice to messure the lengths of the fenders, but it looks like one of the longer ones can be reached to the stock airbox, just seal up some wholes and add a whole for the snorkel to attach to, or be like the one guy and have an open port on the box that unsrews for dry running

I honestly thing that 99.9% of the time people dont actually use them.
thats GHEY GHEY GHEY IMHO.
I would never put one on because I would NOT use it... Im not gonna be in such deep water that will fill my cab up and my air intake is higher than i would ever want to get water in the cab...
If you use it, ACTUALLY use it then sick if not, then GHEY GHEY GHEY.
and like i said most people dnt or wouldnt...

well, i mean theres guy that hydro lock their engines just hitting the big "puddles" you dont need to cover the entire truck, just cover the airbox and then **** can happen
and yeah, i see it as Overkill, but not just Ghey

AKrangerguy18 (11:55:37 PM): "Aaron says that the white ranger(second pic) is from Alaska, in Anchorage, and he has a website. Aaron can't remember the link, but the guy is also on TRS.com. CBRUnit might be the name. If you want to learn more about them he knows."
AKrangerguy18 (11:56:23 PM): most ppl are gonna roll in 2 feet of water, that barely touches the engine, and think they need a snorkel...
rollinontwnties (11:56:41 PM): lol
rollinontwnties (11:56:47 PM): i might get in trouble..

The snorkel Jim used on his Ranger (the last picture you showed) I don't like at all. Too much mud and crud can get in there. I love the look of the ARB Safari ones. Would I use it? Not for the purpose it's intended BUT it would allow a bit more room in the engine compartment for other things I want, like air horns/compressor etc...
My engine compartment is pretty cramped so if it frees up valuable real estate then it does have a purpose and a use for me.

I'd use it if I had it. I've almost needed it SEVERAL times now in Wharton, lol.
But keep in mind if you make it the "normal" air intake, you take a performance hit. They are quite resistive to flow owing to length and bends. If you're someone who values an aftermarket intake, you'll hate these in daily driving. You should set it up so it can be disconnected until needed and the regular intake you use connected instead.

It helps, but everyone I've talked to who had one said it was a net loss. Helping to force air down an excessively long and bent tube is not the same thing as helping a standard intake get more air. "Ram air" is relative to the design of the intake. If the intake is a "net loss" to begin with, ram air is a SMALL gain and may not make it up.
Also, the ram air effect requires fairly higher speeds and is generally useful only for picking up your numbers at higher speeds. Most of where we "live" in terms of acceleration is "off the line" and through the lower gears -- where the ram air effect is weak if present at all.
