Bullitt Mustang pedals installed in my Ranger

I installed these pedals in my Ranger a couple of days ago:



They are OE Bullitt/Mach I Mustang pedals. The brake and clutch pedals are rubber. The accelerator pedal is plastic, probably nylon. All 3 have stainless steel trim.

Before I started, I read through a few Mustang forum threads with people crying about how hard the rubber brake/clutch pedals are to install. I thought they were being a bunch of candy *** pansies until I tried it myself. Wow! What a supreme PITA!

Trying to stretch the cold rubber pedals over the plates in 40F weather probably didn't make the job any easier. I heated them in hot water to soften them up but they cooled off before I could get them on easily.

Before someone asks, the answer is, "No, they are definitely NOT a direct fit on Rangers".

The metal plates for brake and clutch had to be cut down because the Ranger pedals are almost square and the Mustang's are tapered at the bottom.

The gas pedal doesn't fit either. Ranger is 1-piece; Mustang is 2-piece. I had to resort to a bit of creative hatchet work to make the parts come together but I think the finished product looks pretty good.

looks great, i wanted to do this a long time ago, but after reading how hard it was i didn't. now you have me thinking again

The Bullitt pedal sets are also available in an automatic transmission version. I'm sure that you would have similar compatibility issues with those in a Ranger.

Manual set on eBay. The extra pedal on the bracket is the replacement for the stock Mustang dead pedal.



Automatic set on eBay.

The sets usually go for $40~60 new on eBay or individually from FRPP for about $20 each. Keep in mind that you have to hack up your factory pedals pretty good to make them fit.

thats not to bad. ya i know i acully fully read posts lol... shouldnt be to much of a problem really. my acual clutch and brake the rubber is just wearing away like crazy.

Speaking of dead pedals, I would pay real money if I could relocate the parking brake in my truck to a handle somewhere (either a Mustang-esques arm, or a Toyota style pull/twist ****) and put a real dead pedal in my truck. I forgot how nice it was to have a dead pedal before I got the Miata.

Great job bob, looks great. I'd like to put a set in my truck....I have came to like the pedal location in my moms 04 explorer and my dads 05 f-250. I would assume that the rangers pedal location is a bit different.

Are the pedals you just installed in any different location, or do they have a different pitch from the stock pedals?

mustangtuning.com has them on sale 39.99 for the auto set and 49.99 for the manual set niether comes with the dead pedal its 14.99 extra and they have free shipping

The clutch and brake are in the same place as stock and feel about the same except the bumps are a bit grippier on textured shoe soles.


The stocker is straight up and down but the Mustang accel pedal is slanted.




Both the Ranger and Mustang accel pedals had to be trimmed a lot to get them to fit together. It's necessary to cut the back of the Mustang accel pedal down as much as possible. If not, it adds too much on top of the stocker and big feet can contact it while braking.

The supplier who makes them for Ford usually has both types available on eBay. Occasionally, they go for the opening bid of $28 auto, $32 manual plus $7.50 shipping. Other times, they get bid up into the $30's or low $40's plus shipping. Both sets also include the dead pedal.

This is the best price I've seen.

Every year Toyota used to get picked at in reviews because they 'still' had this 'archaic' system. That might work in a Ranger (which is MUCH larger inside than the old Taco). But I jabbed my knee on that stupid handle constantly when I was test driving Tacos..

I think they changed it on the new Tacoma..

I like. If I didn't wear a size 16 I'd do it but as it is right now I'm managing fine so I'm going to leave it alone.

Yeah, I'd largely prefer a regular handle like on a sports car, but ANYTHING to get that damn pedal out of there will do.

It seems to me that alot of members who have wrecked Rangers have ended up with gashes or bruises on their left leg from the parking brake.
