fx4 lv1 vs lv2 differences

ok, what are the differences between an fx4 lv2 and lv1. I might wanna get a new ranger with less miles on it and a manual and the fx4 lv2 package. I found a lv1 that i can afford, but i am not sure if i want it if you have to sacrifice alota goodies found on the lv2. so what is included in a fx4 lv 1, and what on top of that is included on the lv2s. i did a search and it helped a little but im not sure if everything was included. oh, and is there such thing as a level III? i heard that somewhere i cant remember. if there is what doe sit have on it above the 1 and 2. thanks

The difference between a standard FX4 and a Level II (in 2004 anyways there are slight variations between years, but this is the basic setup) are Alcoa forged aluminum rims, 31x10.5 BFG All Terrain T/A tires, bilstein shocks, full skid plates, 31 spline 8.8 rear end with torsen limited slip rear end, chrome loop type tow hooks, manuals got a special chrome shifter w/8-ball type shifter ****, special interior colors, bucket seats w/console. They are the ultimate Ranger as far as I am concerned.

The clutch problems seem to be a problem in general for the Rangers with manual transmissions. It is mainly in the slave and master cylinder. I don't think the FX4s (any level) are having any more problems than other 4WD Rangers and should not because the parts are not different.

How about converting to a T-5, or an even beefier Tremec TKO 5spd? Converting to one of the aforementioned transmissions would ditch the hydraulic clutch in favor of a cable, or maybe a mechanical setup (can't remember which one for sure). I am sure that a T-5 would handle all of the 4.0's torque with out any issues, but the conversion could be difficult. Are there any electronic gismos on the M5OD-R1 transmission? Any thing that links it with tthe ECU? If not, I think a T-5 swap is possible.

T5s have been swapped into our Rangers before and made to mate with the 4.0L. I'm not certain what all was involved, but I do know it is possible.

If you're considering a level II over a level I, get the Level II. I did, and it was definitely worth it! Even my girlfriend (though I love her to death, she is car-retarded) appreciates the Level II package!

the problems with the manual out weigh having to replace an auto when it blows the best thing is replacing the clutch with a aftermarket stronger. and just replacing the slave cylinder when you in there to save the hassle. the T-case there was this like rattling problem that seemed to happen and then the shift indicator with the handle there is a sensor that can go crazy. but most people seem to be ok with that. honistly with the small problems that it has are far over rated the auto...

The problem that I had was simply that the 4x4 light stayed on, thats it. It wasnt in 4WD, but it said it was.

so, the only problem with the 5spds is the slave cylinder? how often do they break? what causes the slave cylinder to break? and can you swap just the hydro clutch setup a cable 1? would an aftermarket clutch fix the problem? oh so mechanically, there is no problem with the tcase?

also, wat gears do the rear ends on the lv2s have? 4.10?

Damn I was thinking of getting a stick because it would be cheaper to fix. Looks like Ford is screwing the poor college man once again.

The Level IIs come STOCK with 8.8 31-spline rear with 4.10s. I'm not sure on the aftermarket clutch for 03, but for 04+ I do know there are no options other than aftermarket that's just like the OEM. I'm PATIENTLY waiting for CenterForce to come out with a dual friction clutch for the 04. The only problem I've had with my clutch system was my pressure plate went on me. Ford thought it was my slave and/or master cylinders so they replaced them first and then found out in was my pressure plate.
