Pinging on Acceleration
I have a 3.0l 5spd manual XLT extended cab. My truck on acceleration tends to ping.....its rather annoying. Maybe im a MORON and its just i need to be in a lower gear but alot of times ill be in 4th gear and ill get a pinging on a slight adjustment in acceleration. can anybody help me out?

its a common thing for the 3.0's to ping...most of them do it! its carbon build up..you can get an injector service done(but a pro not the stuff on the shelf!) ..that helps alot..
I did an injector service on mine 12k ago and run Lucus Fuel system tune up every oil change and no more ping...
But dont feal bad its not just your truck that does it!

Everything is kept maintained (Oil/AirFilter/FuelFilter/TirePressure etc...). Any suggestions on what can be done? I haven't reset my computer in over a year (I usually try to do it at every oil change) do you think that could help? I'm thinking a bottle of BG44K wouldn't hurt either.

Pinging on Accel
My '99 3.0 started pinging more about a month ago - I checked the location of the air inlet temp sensor to see if I could replace it myself (I was told it might be faulty) and found that the vacuum hose had fallen of it. I replaced the hose and the truck runs fine. It's worth checking the hose for cracks or drying out, too.

I have heard of people in hot climates using lower temp thermostats (180F instead of 192F) to minimize the ping. Also, some owners run combustion chamber cleaner through it now and then to remove combustion chamber deposits. CC deposits can cause hot spots that lead to preignition and can also raise the compression pressure causing detonation.
