80,000 miles on drum brakes gets you this

This is what happens when you get lazy and wait 80,000 miles to do your rear brakes. I had to cut the passenger side drum off because it would not come off even with a pry bar and a hammer. The drive side came off with a little hammering and prying. The passenger side shoes feel out when I finally got the drum off. On with the pics.

whats funny is they just started making noise this week.

The emergency brake arm was stuck in the shoe it wouldn't even pivot.

my truck has 95,000 on the rear brake shoes......doesn't make a single noise......they have been inspected 3 times when the rear axles were pulled once to install the new gears, once to install the new L/S unit, and once to check the gears/carrier......all within 5,000 miles ago........my gf's uncle did the work and he said the brakes looked great!

I have almost 90,000 on the original rear brakes too. Hell, the front ones lasted about 60,000.

i was up at my dads work the other day and he pulled the drums off an 03 fx4 with like 20-40k on it and it was worse then that, the only thing i can think of is the rust builds up behind the pad and separates it.

I've always been good at spending as little money on my truck as possible. I'm easy on my brakes and they last forever. It probably also helps that I'm not off-roading in mud or salt water. Same with tires. Almost 90,000 on the stock pieces of junk. I wish those would finally wear out because I hate them. But I'm too cheap to replace them when they don't need it yet.

We changed my rear drums and shoes last year, about 110k on them and they didn't look as bad as yours

yeah but he is running bigger tires and gets the truck dirty... makes a big difference when you add some sand and dirt in the mix.
