cat armor

has anyone made a bar or a plate for the 4.0's to protect the cat? i whent wheeling and smashed my cat resulting in destroying it and now i need a whole new Y pipe and main cat. is it possible to maybe bolt a bar across the botom of the truck where the cat is to prevent this from happeing again?

i don't know if it's my rcd or what but i've never had any problems with that cat....actually it's the only one left on my exhaust setup. bwahahah.

if you've looked under there though and are replacing the y and cat yourself, i'm sure you can come up with something. where there's a will, there's a way.

Will the cat setup from say an 07 work on the 04 ? My 2 cats are at the engine and don't have to worry bout destroying them when wheeling

the only thing im worryed about is if i do put a bar from frame rail to frame rail or even a cage wont i smash the bar or cage into the cat and be in the same boat anyways? im more thinking along the lines of getting a bar and mounting it from rail to rail but theres no where in the middle to support it.

Which cat are you talking about?...(from the above pic) the one under the skid plate or the smaller one closer to the headers?

Hmm. That's a good question. I've probably hit mine before but never damaged it. If you're good with metal work I suppose you could make a skid similar to the gas tank one that spans from the front crossmember back to the transmission crossmember, along with some supports the the frame rail(s) on the sides for support.

Yeah my 93 only had one cat and then there was none. My 07 is even better since the cats are up at the firewall.

That above pic that I posted is not of my truck, but I do have the same skid. I got mine from a junkyard, got the fuel and x-fer case both for 40$ from what I remember.

Not exactly sure, sorry. Probably anywhere from around 98-2004 would be very similar. Someone else may know for sure. The ones I got bolted right up exactly to existing holes in the frame and crossmembers, I used my own bolts though.

According to this thread, it seems that any 97+ will fit: https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ar+skid+plates

if you crush your cross member/skid/cage thats made from tube or some plate steel... then there's a design flaw or you're hitting stuff REALLY hard.

both my cats are on they're own piece of exhaust pipe, it un-bolts after the Y pipe lol.

The gas tank and t-case skids came standard on Level II's and FX4's if I remember correctly. They were also a option on any 4x4 if special ordered.

My ranger has a gas tank and transfercase skid. I just though I would throw that in there...

mine does to, the person we got it from said his dad had ordered the 'offroad' package, I'm assuming that's what it was.
