Ok so my brother has a 07 F150 4x4... Right now its leveled with 35s on stock 17s... He wants to get new wheels but dpesnt kno what right offset and back spacing is needed. all i kno is the bolt pattern which is 6x135 if im not mistaken. Any help would be great! thanks

 

If he has 'real' 35s, the only thing that is going to work is another wheel with stock specs. If my 35s were on a wheel only slightly different in any way, they would rub on either the upper control arm or fenders/bumper.
So are they 35x12.50s or a narrow version?

 

they are 35x12.50 17s thats whats on the side of the KM2... So stock back spacing is 5.5"??? so 4.5 wouldnt work? I thought the lower the number the more the tire is pushed out. hm

 

Stock is 7.5" wide with 5.5" backspacing.
4.5" backspacing wheels that are 9" wide will push the tire WAY out. The inside of the wheel will be 1" further out, but the outside of the wheel will be out 2.5" further than stock.
The center of the tire will stick out 1.75" further than it does now. The increased scrub radius means the tire moves forward and back in the wheel well more, he won't be able to turn the wheel full lock on flat ground without trimming.

I have 35x12.50r18 KM2s on stock 18s, basically exactly the same fit except wheel diameter. There is about 1/4" between the tire and the fender when turning right now, at best. And 1/4" between the tire and upper control arm.
If he wants wider wheels he needs to either trim a bunch (not sure how much) or get a real lift. I'm in the same boat. Probably going to lift eventually.

 

This isn't a very good picture but...

On flat ground with a 2" leveling kit. The narrow factory wheel pulls in the shoulders of the tire a bit to help clear the fender, as well as the backspacing. A 9" wide wheel with 4.5" backspacing (which is spec for most aftermarket wheels) is going to flatten out the tread and move the tire out so much that it's going to scrub.
I have even heard rubbing with F150s with 6" lift, 17x9s with 35x12.50s when they are backing up and stuff.
There are a couple of wheels that are 8.5" wide with 5.75" backspacing that I thought about buying, but I would be worried about the inside of the tire contacting the upper ball joint/control arm. The 35x12.50 KM2s just barely fit with stock wheels. You may be able to work with a few different wheels but I couldn't say for sure, it would be a tight squeeze.

17x8 with 5.47" backspacing, you're only adding .5" to the outside.

 

Thank you Brian... I'll talk to my brother and see what he says. He may just have to suck it up and keep the stock wheels or buy a 4" lift lol

 

Yep. He may be able to stuff some other combo under there but not likely without trimming. I'm hoping to throw a lift under mine before it comes time for new tires, so I can step down to 17s this time.

Kinda sucks these trucks are so touchy with different wheels... unlike the rangers you could throw almost any 5x4.5 under it and drive away

 

You can only do so much to fit 35s with no lift.

 

You can throw 17x9s with 4.5" backspacing under a stock or leveled F150, just not with 35s.
Same as the ranger, you can throw any wheel under the stock ranger, but you aren't going to fit 33s in there with aftermarket wheels and no lift.
