As if I dont have enough toys laying around already

As the title states I am teetering on bringing home a new toy/project/conversation piece. It is a 78 F250 Crew Cab with a 460/c6 4x4. It has a newer bed on it but the doors and roof are bad. Probably could use a hood and some minor stuff. It runs but has a bad fuel line. Drives but has a bad brake line in the rear. Not really big deals but minor stuff. The clincher is I can get it at 800 bucks roughly (some parts are being haggled back and forth as well)

This isnt 100% yet but odds are looking good. Ive already got a possible drivetrain plan for it as well as a body idea. The drawback is its one more project Id have sitting around. Let me know what ya all think, Any input would be cool as I am a rookie for the 70s trucks

That truck is sweet. I think you should get it. That has a lot of potential.

Mother F***er I've been searching everywhere for one of those.

BTW that engine and trans is not original to the truck if you weren't already told. The crew cab 73-79 4x4's did not get the 460 from the factory, only the 2WD's did. And the 2WD crew's were long bed FWIW

800 is a really good deal

You're gonna hate fixing the rear doors. They are not being reproduced. From the factory Ford actually took front doors and cut them to make rear doors.

Actually, don't buy it. I want it. I've been trying to find one of these because I want to do a Cummins swap into it and make it a nice daily/tow rig

If the guy will let you get the VIN off the door. PM it to me so I can decode it for you and find out if anything else was changed

replacement of the rear door was the first thing that I thought of. That will be a big pita.

Looks pretty sweet though. You will like it. I love having a crew cab.

Just noticed another thing, a previous owner put incorrect style mirrors on. The lower mount should be above the "dent"

Random fact: 73-79 Fords are called dentsides, because of the "dent" that runs down the side of the truck

Yea, they're my favorite

I noticed something else lol

Someone replaced the hood with one from a 73-77 truck. The 78-79 had F.O.R.D. lettering on the hood, there should be holes where the letters used to be (unless the glare is deceiving me)

Hey Joe did you get a good look inside the cab? It looks like there are holes where the A/C vents used to be, it may just be the picture quality and shadows giving the effect

I gotta agree! Quad cabs from that year are beautiful! Even when theyre rust colored.
Do you guys watch Powerblock TV? They took a quad cab ford just like this one except dually (which wouldnt be too difficult to do), and put a 2500 Dodge frame under it so it has the Cummins powerplant! Ultimate tow rig!!!! Ford styling and Cummins power!

Would be an awesome, but expensive, to put a modern powerstroke engine in , maybe from a junkyard. Find a newer model diesel and put the old body on it. Like I said, expensive but definitely different. The mother of all projects.

I know the motor is wrong but odds are the trans is correct. The 460 shares a bellhousing with the 351/400 family which this truck would have came with. I can only hope they didnt notch the frame for the passenger manifold like most people did back then. The hood is correct, They covered the holes but you can see them if you look closely.

I know the doors are a pain but I can get rust free ones for not to bad of a price. I need to go back and crawl over the underside a bit more to see whats up on the frame and floor. I really want it but I dont want it to just sit

Its gonna be a lot of work, But the fact it runs and can drive helps a lot. Fuel lines are easy so are brake lines. I am no stranger to bed/cab off frame work. I think tomorrow I am gonna crawl over the truck some more and make my final descision

Thread hijack + random question.....

A guy a right down the road from me has a 2wd version of this truck (red, clean.....drool) and now that Ive seen this thread, I might stop and ask him about it.

But the question. Another person down the road has a 2door version of this truck but it is 4wd. They dont rive it, and it is a little rusty. Do these trucks have good potential for a project?

....end hijack.

Yes and no, depends on what you're wanting to build. I'd personally take the 4 door for the rarity

Yea, I've been following the build, they got the idea off of the forum I'm on. It's been done a bunch. But I don't like the way they are doing theirs
