so you can spend 1600ish and make just over 500hp. i spent 1600 and run a 13.6 on my first ever run in the 1/4 mile on a 8000lb truck...

EGR is stupid easy and practically free to fix on the 6.4
Oh wow!! That is impressive to say the least.

Wirelessly posted

I haven't seen too many 6.4s at work with any major issues. Only thing I have seen is worn out front ends. The other day I had to pull a blown 6.0 out of a 250 only 67k on the truck

There are issues with every truck, problem is with most of the diesels I see is they drive around town all day, no towing, and just idling. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 6.0 or 6.4, but it would have to come from the right owner.

So my grandpa just had a new motor put in under warranty in his 2009 F150 5.4L with 37k on the clock does that make it a bad motor?

Of course there are always lemons but at a point it becomes a wide spread problem.

ie:) Enough pre-03 4.0 SOHCs have had timing chain issues that we all agree it is a problem. As a general rule people here suggest not to buy 01-02 Ranger because of this.

I think a big problem with diesels is they don't get used. Like you said they sit around and idle and never tow or take long trips. Diesels aren't for everyone and big trucks have become sort of a status symbol for successful men. Like "look what I can afford". So they get the diesel because it's big and bad but they never use it for what it's meant for. If you don't use the truck as a truck get the gaser and leave the diesels to the towers, haulers, and farmers.

That's part of the reason I hate that everyone on here is always hooting and hollering about getting a SD. It's like are you really going to use this truck? Why do you need this huge diesel? They aren't supposed to be your commuter. They are for work.

Looks good, The 6.0's and 6.4's biggest problem is that people think they are cars. They need to be worked.

I didn't spend one penny on any gas for that trip, and chances are, I still wouldn't need to buy any if I went on that trip again.

exactly right, i should have done more research on mine before purchasing, the previous owner didnt treat it as well as it initially looked.

You are right they dont tow enough. Mine doesnt even tow enough. maybe 2-3 times a month. I will say however that when i do tow its worth every penny i paid for it.

not to mention my girl friend seems to love all the power when she drives it. actually i think she drives it harder than I do. haha
