That's true. My Ranger's theft light flashes when it's off.

As far as the theft light goes I don't really have any idea about that. The super duty's don't have the PATS system so there's no theft light in them.
I went to attempt to resync the pats system which I read is generally used if the vehicle wont start, mine will.

When you have a stock X ( meaning no Chip) If your theft light blinks fast your PATs system and PCM ( vehicle's computer) are no longer in sync/ not recognizing each other. You will need to reset the PATS system.

* THEFT LIGHT (on Excursions) - If the theft light flashes rapidly and the vehicle won't start, the Passive Anti-theft system (PATS) will need to be reset. To reset the PATS, perform the following steps:

Turn the key on, but do not attempt to start the vehicle.
Wait for the theft light to quit flashing rapidly. This should take about 45 seconds, after which the THEFT light will flash multiple times about every 3 seconds.
Turn the key off and remove the key from the ignition for 30 seconds.
Insert the key and turn the ignition to the ON position.
The THEFT light should illuminate for about 5 seconds and then go out.
PATS System should now be reset
You should be able to start your vehicle normally
[source]

I tried to see if that would stop the theft light from flashing, no dice. I even recorded in the hope that I would be successful. lol

The theft light flashes for about 5 minutes into the drive and then just stops.

Wonder if I should bugger around with the dash lights myself or just dealer it, thoughts?

KLC, i havent checked if it flashes when its locked. I would think it does, my other ones have in the past but who knows right now with this one. I am guessing it does but the one thing is it flashing one the truck starts.

x3.
if it were flashing a code, it'd be a bunch of flashes in rapid succession.
It is possible for the coil light bulb to burn out. its like any other light. I once fixed a mid 90's Bronco that had just about every possible service light burned out in the dash. CEL, ABS, Battery. you name it.

Today I spent some quality time with the truck. Gave it a wash, farted around with it a bit and so far have:

- seen some dents and scratches. Some i hadnt seen before. boo.

- rear bumper looks like its been tweaked. didn't look under the chassis or bumper skin but its certainly off by about half an inch or the fender is on the passenger side.

- glow plug bulb may be out, may not. dealer visit monday. no volt meter here and non the of the hood rats have one so can't test on my own. Two different sites said most likely just the bulb.

- theft light on / blinking. tried to sync the systems with a how to i seen online but it failed. dealership monday.

Now, after some research and reading.
http://oilchange.lubrico.com/OilChange.aspx
to keep your warranty you must update their system often with your oil services. Its a requirement meaning that if you do not do this but your rear diff implodes they can opt not to warranty you due to you not maintaining the oil change update.
Other interesting print that I found myself..
1- diesel fuel injection systems arent covered.
2- 4wd locking hub arent covered.
3- they only pay upto $60 towing IF the truck and is covered under their repair and you better hope you only need towing 3x, after that sol.
4- seeping or sweating gaskets are not covered, only 100% failure is.
5- computer systems are not covered.

there is more fine print im sure. I need to take a look at it.

Yea, sad thing is it wasn't pushed on me, I inquired since the truck carried no factory warranty on it.

I don't have much of an opinion yet on it as I haven't had to use it... yet.

Time will tell. The interesting thing is if you make no claims in the 3 years, you can renew for another 3 at $150.

I just have read that the oil change notifications are mandatory and this is what they want you to fail on so they can void the warranty and pocket the cash. ... I wonder how many people don't even do it, ever.

To test the bulbs in the cluster...with the key off press and hold the reset button while turning the key on. Do not release the button until test appears in the odometer section of the cluster. Then press and release the reset button until you get to the test for the bulbs. It will light up all the bulbs and sweep the gauges. If you are still missing the GP indicator(~ kinda looking symbol), then it is a bulb.
Did this test, so it seems like the bulb might be out.

Many times with those warranties you get your money back if you don't use it.

An update on the dealership visit today (not good).

This is the email I just sent the dealer I bought the truck from:

Hi Duane / Mike

The truck is at the Erin Ford dealership
905-828-1600
Etta was the rep that called me, she is not the diesel tech.

Vehicle was dropped off to get the following work done:
glow plug light fixed (wasn't turning on)
cable added to the block heater for winter
flashing theft light fixed.

None of these items were able to be fixed. While I haven't picked up the paperwork or the truck yet they did call me to inform me that:

cluster has an issue and cannot cater to a glow plug light.
the chassis is a 2003 / 2004. The body is a 2005 Gas body.
the theft light cannot be fixed because the electronics are from different vehicles (pats & pcim)

They also said the truck shouldn't be at ford since its a Frankenstein and a mish mash of parts.
So, no work was done except inspection to the tune of $250

The dealer also took issue with the VIN
1FMNU43S45ED44953 (found a vin decoder here - says its a gas truck)

I have no idea to be honest..... heres an update:

I just cancelled Lubrico warranty. There is a window of time you can do that and get a refund. By fluke today was the last day.

Spoke to the dealer I bought the trunk from. They are "planning" to refund me.... Almost seems to easy so far.

Picks of engine? Don't know about the VIN being altered, but I don't think the 05 excursions got all the updates that the 05+ superdutys got. I'm pretty sure they still had the 03-04 chassis, which would have had leaf spring frontend rather than coils, and they also still had the older style dash.

Status is this.
Truck is back at the dealer i bought it from, they claim they are taking it back.
They still have my trade in which they say they will temp plate it and return it to me in the AM. I will need to cert and e-test it on my own.
I owe the bank. The dealer is supposed to pay the bank out.
They have some of my cash. Not sure what will happen there.

I will be out money but being out a couple k is better than owning that rig.

In my opinion, you should be 100% reimbursed. It was their f'up selling a truck that had a sketchy status, and you're the one that was nice enough to do business with them, they should be trying to kiss *** to put you in something else.

Had something almost similar happen to my little brother. Traded a Cavalier and some cash to a guy for a Dakota. Dakota caught fire, was written off. Upon the insurance company taking it in they discovered the truck had 3 different vins on the frame/body etc. They ended up giving my brother the write-off value of the truck, and the thing back. He made like $2000 from that ordeal, lucky bugger.

I'd sue.
You've got good grounds there if they don't refund your full amount.

amen.

rick, i guess that would explain some of the problems you were having tho. good luck with the whole situation. out of curiosity, did you run a carfax or an oasis report on this truck before you bought it? i feel like that might have exposed some of these issues before buying. well at least the vin issues anyways

I told my Old man your story of what has happened.
He thinks that it was pieced together from several different trucks in texas, then converted for Canada to hide the fact that something was wrong with it.
He also said you shoudln't be out a couple k either.
