I just picked up a new 30 gallon tank this weekend. My 10gal is coming out, in favor of this. With 30 gals of air I can get at least one nice long toot out of any horn in my collection, even the super air-hungry 12" Cunningham Horn (12" is the diameter of the diaphragm discs, not the length of it ;-)

I went to VIP auto parts and got Plasti-kote paint in the Factory Ford TS color (Silver Frost with clear coat) so that the tank will match my truck, well as much as possible with a rattle can DIY paint job...

I'm keeping my Puma DC5000 on the truck as a backup. My main compressor is a homemade thing I put together from parts off eBay. I made a homemade version of the popular Oasis XD2000 by coupling a 5HP Hydraulic motor to a York 210R air conditioner pump. It looks like this:

I've nicknamed my compressor "The Mirage", because from far away it looks just like an Oasis, but up close it's not as nice LOL! Performance is equal to the Oasis though, I run this thing on 24VDC and it fills my 10 gallon tank 0-150 psi in just 1 minute 12 seconds. For some reason though, my compressor is a lot louder than the Oasis. I think there might be something slightly wrong with the motor shaft alignment or maybe the used York. I've got another 210R in better shape, but haven't had the time to try it out. Either way, at an air horn blowing festival compressor noise isn't an issue...

The only things significantly (6-12 times) faster than a Viair 380 are the Oasis and an EDC.

EDC = Engine Driven Compressor, usually a modified York or Sanden air conditioning compressor that runs off your fan belt just as it would if it were keeping you cool. But it's pumping air instead of refrigerant.

24VDC = 24 volts direct current. I've got four marine deep-cycle batteries in a series-parallel arrangement to power the Mirage. The result is double the voltage and double the amperage capability of just one battery. Guys with juiced rides will be familiar with this, hydraulics use the same types of motors and to hop you need serious power.
