HID bulbs
Hey everyone i want those lights that are really blue...the ones like u see on all the luxery cars like lexus' and stuff...i found these on ebay but htey are mad cheap....do u think theyd be what im looking for?

HIDs are not just the bulbs. It includes a harness, ballast, and electron-bulbs.
The ones you are looking at are just imitation bulbs.
There is no way to power a electron-bulb with your stock harness.
aftermarket HIDs are illegal.
if you were to buy it, you would need the complete kit (usually $200 and up)

hid's are only legal on vehicales that come stock with them. I cannot remember the technical info, but it has to due with the reflected field of light and blinding others that are on the road. However, the law only applies to the aftermarket hid systems that simply give you all the componets to run there hid bulbs in your factory headlamp ballast. The reflected light of of the ballast designed for a standrad bulb just does not work for the hid application. If you buy one of the high $$$ kits that include new headlamp ballasts that are designed to work with the supplied hid bulbs it is perfectly legal.

Stock headlights dont have ballasts... ALL HID systems come with the ballasts, starters, and bulbs... You will spend at least 200 bucks for them. If you are serious about purchasing them, DO NOT buy a system higher than 8000 K. Anything higher than that will give you brighter colors but you lighting visibility will be reduced. I have a 8000 K system on my truck...

You are wrong about the stock headlamp assy. not having ballasts! Do a search on headlamp ballasts, what you will find is that your factory headlamp that the bulb goes into is a ballast, my guess would be that that is the reason the Ford also refers to them as ballasts in my repair manual.
Also, all hid conversions DO NOT come with replacement ballasts. Many of them simply come with the bulbs and starters and are to be used with your stock ballasts.

It's a fact. Sorry. HIDs requires a ballast because of their initial charge. Initially, HID bulbs require a surge of energy, to excite the electrode in the HID bulb. After the initial surge, the ballast retains some charge (for the electrode to stay charged) and therefore will only need to run at 35 watts (vs. the stock halogen wattage of 55-60)
Halogens do not require ballasts. When you purchase a HID kit, it comes with the bulbs, ballast, and an adapter. It's plug and play.
aftermarket HIDs are illegal because standard HEADLAMPS are not made for HID kits. HIDs are brighter, therefore produce a glare for the person in front of you and oncoming traffic. Headlamps that are designed for HIDs include normal headlamps, and projector-style headlamps. Projectors 'projects' a beam of light in front of you, with a cutoff on top, thus will not "glare" onto others. Headlamps that are made for HID kits have reflectors calculated to a certain angle, that also produces these cutoffs (a la 2001 Lexus ES models, the aftermarket Sylvania XENARC kits for F150 and Silverados).
Can you run HID kits on normal cars? Sure, there's a lot of people doing it already. That doesn't justify it's legality. It's illegal, dangerous for others on the road, and is JUST NOT DAMN COURTEOUS. With that said, you can do whatever the hell you want. But I think it's a dumb idea, especially running off of the stock headlight assembly. If you want to do it (still illegal), purchase projector housings, and mold it into your headlight, do it 'right', so that you will have this cutoff. (side note: if you were gonan do this, make sure to aim the damn headlight, or else it's pointless. Pointing it higher doesn't give you a wider spectrum, just makes you an A$$).
